Morton County is a county located in the state of North Dakota. As of 2000, the population is 25,303. Its county seat is Mandan6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 5,038 km² (1,945 mi²). 4,989 km² (1,926 mi²) of it is land and 49 km² (19 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.98% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 25,303 people, 9,889 households, and 6,932 families residing in the county. The population density is 5/km² (13/mi²). There are 10,587 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (6/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.82% White, 0.16% Black or African American, 2.39% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 1.16% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 9,889 households out of which 34.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.20% are married couples living together, 8.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.90% are non-families. 25.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.03.
