Cass County is a county located in the state of North Dakota. As of 2000, the population is 123,138. Its county seat is Fargo6.

History
Cass County dates back to the days of the Dakota Territory. It was one of the original counties defined in 1872, and was organized on October 27, 1873 at a meeting in Fargo. It is named in honor of a railroad executive, George Washington Cass.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,579 km² (1,768 mi²). 4,572 km² (1,765 mi²) of it is land and 7 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.15% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 123,138 people, 51,315 households, and 29,814 families residing in the county. The population density is 27/km² (70/mi²). There are 53,790 housing units at an average density of 12/km² (30/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.10% White, 0.81% Black or African American, 1.08% Native American, 1.26% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.43% from other races, and 1.29% from two or more races. 1.23% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 51,315 households out of which 29.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.3% are married couples living together, 7.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 41.9% are non-families. 31.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.98.
In the county the population is spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 16.0% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 100.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.5 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $38,147, and the median income for a family is $51,469. Males have a median income of $32,216 versus $22,300 for females. The per capita income for the county is $20,889. 10.1% of the population and 5.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.1% of those under the age of 18 and 8.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
