Ronan is a city located in Northwest Montana in Lake County, Montana on the Flathead Indian Reservation about 12 miles south of Flathead Lake. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,812. Ronan is located in Lake County

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.7 km² (1.1 mi²). 2.7 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,812 people, 699 households, and 420 families residing in the city. The population density is 660.0/km² (1,701.5/mi²). There are 755 housing units at an average density of 275.0/km² (709.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 62.42% White, 0.11% African American, 33.06% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.44% from other races, and 3.81% from two or more races. 3.37% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 699 households out of which 34.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.6% are married couples living together, 15.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.9% are non-families. 33.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 3.18.
In the city the population is spread out with 29.2% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 84.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 75.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $22,422, and the median income for a family is $29,750. Males have a median income of $27,847 versus $17,454 for females. The per capita income for the city is $11,678. 24.8% of the population and 20.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 26.7% of those under the age of 18 and 21.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
Description
Ronan was named in 1885, after Major Peter Ronan, superintendent of the Flathead Indian Reservation. It serves as the hub of the agricultural community in the Mission Valley.
