Petroleum County is a county located in the state of Montana. As of 2000, the population is 493, making it Montana's least populated county. Its county seat is Winnett6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,336 km² (1,674 mi²). 4,284 km² (1,654 mi²) of it is land and 52 km² (20 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.20% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 493 people, 211 households, and 136 families residing in the county. The population density is 0/km² (0/mi²). There are 292 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (0/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 99.19% White, 0.20% Native American, 0.20% from other races, and 0.41% from two or more races. 1.22% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 211 households out of which 31.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.90% are married couples living together, 5.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.10% are non-families. 31.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
