Longview is a city located in Cowlitz County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 34,660. Longview is located in southwestern Washington, at the junction of the Cowlitz and Columbia rivers.

Longview was officially incorporated on February 14, 1924.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 36.5 km² (14.1 mi²). 35.5 km² (13.7 mi²) of it is land and 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.84% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 34,660 people, 14,066 households, and 8,931 families residing in the city. The population density is 976.8/km² (2,530.0/mi²). There are 15,225 housing units at an average density of 429.1/km² (1,111.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 89.35% White, 0.72% African American, 1.76% Native American, 2.17% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, 2.96% from other races, and 2.92% from two or more races. 5.82% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 14,066 households out of which 30.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.5% are married couples living together, 12.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.5% are non-families. 30.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 2.96.
In the city the population is spread out with 26.0% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.0 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $35,171, and the median income for a family is $43,869. Males have a median income of $38,972 versus $26,625 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,559. 16.7% of the population and 12.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 25.0% of those under the age of 18 and 6.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
