Wahkiakum County is a county located in the state of Washington. As of 2000, the population is 3,824. The county seat is at Cathlamet. It is named after Chief Wahkiakum ("Tall Timber") of the Chinook.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 743 km² (287 mi²). 684 km² (264 mi²) of it is land and 58 km² (22 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 7.83% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,824 people, 1,553 households, and 1,108 families residing in the county. The population density is 6/km² (14/mi²). There are 1,792 housing units at an average density of 3/km² (7/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 93.46% White, 0.26% Black or African American, 1.57% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 1.65% from other races, and 2.51% from two or more races. 2.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,553 households out of which 26.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.40% are married couples living together, 6.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.60% are non-families. 24.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 2.83.
In the county, the population is spread out with 23.40% under the age of 18, 5.30% from 18 to 24, 22.20% from 25 to 44, 30.60% from 45 to 64, and 18.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 100.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.10 males.
