User talk:Rlquall

Hi there Rlquall,

I was the one messing around with the Dennis Miller page to see how fast wikipedia could heal itself. Less than 30 minutes...wow..good job! I'm impressed.

Welcome to Wikipedia! Your articles and edits are very helpful and appropriate; keep up the good work! Feel free to drop me a message at the "talk" link beside my name. --MerovingianTalk 14:42, Apr 28, 2004 (UTC)

I second that emotion! Welcome!! jengod 23:24, Apr 28, 2004 (UTC)

Howdy, Rlquall. I've listed your page yatch as a candidate for deletion, there's already a larger and better-spelled article on yachts. Just wanted to let you know that I did like your page, and to encourage you to keep up the good work. TB 16:52, 5 May 2004 (UTC)

Hi, and another belated welcome. Note that when making redirects you need to have the "#" character before the word "REDIRECT"; I've fixed a couple of those for you. I'm glad you're taking the time to make redirects, those can be very useful! If you havn't already, check out Wikipedia:Welcome newcomers which has links to some good pages about proper formats and tips etc. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 19:38, 10 May 2004 (UTC)

I was about to turn your article on stock cars into a redirect to stock car racing but thought I would ask if you thought there was a need for two separate articles. Currently stock car racing covers everything in stock car (I think). Rmhermen 14:32, May 20, 2004 (UTC)

Maybe a close call. I think that it somehow needs to be noted that originally NASCAR cars were truly stock and could be legally driven to the racetrack and then raced, although that's hardly the case now. That would need to be noted in either "stock car racing" or "NASCAR" one, as would (I think) the term "stock car" being used as a direct antonym to "race car", which obviously was far truer in the historical past than it is now.

Neither article is great on history. I will try to add some to stock car racing and make stock car redirect there as it is more general than Nascar. Rmhermen 16:02, May 20, 2004 (UTC)

You are correct. There also is a crying need for at least a minor article on Bill France, Sr. in my opinion, but I do not feel qualfied to write it and he dserves more than a "stub".

Really like your "high church" article & somewhat glad it doesn't automatically redirect to Anglo-Catholicism now. I added a section on the development of the term to help people who hit the link from other articles on historical persons (e.g. the Annotated lyrics to the Vicar of Bray or any future articles on people like Francis Atterbury or the upcoming Cambridge Platonists). Tennessee Supreme Court

Nice article—I especially like the info about how the whole court had to recuse itself once. Right now the last paragraph is a non sequitor, however; it looks like there is some intended text missing that it was intended to follow. I presume you are still filling it in, so I didn't alter that paragraph, but right now it definitely doesn't flow from the previous one. Thanks! Postdlf 07:21, 21 Aug 2004 (UTC)

The Edge of Night/Search for Tomorrow

I added the Perry Mason bit but I failed to elaborate on the Karr = Marceau relationship. I don't know that much about it. Since it seems that you do, could you do that instead? Mike H 13:24, Aug 25, 2004 (UTC)

I saw the comment you wrote on Search for Tomorrow. I've updated the article a little more. Mike H 01:45, Aug 29, 2004 (UTC)

Corrections etc.

Hi

Re: your entry on my talk page: I'm just someone who hangs around and does the odd bit of correcting. You may notice I just moved your article Memorial Gymnasium to a less ambiguous title - the world is full of Memorial Gymnasiums. (I also munged the move a little, but it seems to be OK now). --Ianb 14:21, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)

The CBS Soaps

You seem to know a lot about the CBS soaps, I'm assuming, because your mother watched them when you were younger. One article that is really short right now is Love of Life. If you could help me with that, that would be great. Also, for your reading pleasure: Love is a Many Splendored Thing and Where the Heart Is. Mike H 17:28, Sep 2, 2004 (UTC)

I added clarification to The Secret Storm.
Reasons for the show's demise include CBS's choice to buy the show from the original sponsor/producer, American Home Products, in 1969, as well as the increased popularity of Dark Shadows, a supernatural soap with a heavy youth following. When Dark Shadows ended in 1971, many of the younger viewers that were stolen from The Secret Storm (both supernatural shows aired at the same time in many parts of the country) did not return to their former serial and the show suffered an irreparable drop in the ratings in the late 1960s and early 1970s as a result. Mike H 01:24, Sep 3, 2004 (UTC)

I remembered you left a message on Talk:Capitol (TV series) about the first opening? Well, here (http://www.wost.org/bonus7.html) are the first episodes of the show. I haven't seen them yet but I'm sure that opening is there. Mike H 01:07, Sep 15, 2004 (UTC)

Wales and Berwick Act 1746

I think you'll find it referred to Berwick-upon-Tweed, nowadays in Northumberland; not any Berwick in Sussex. I've changed the article to make it so, but by all means disagree with me. Berwick upon Tweed spent its time reverting from Scotland to England. Sussex never had such problems. best wishes --Tagishsimon

Attorney or Law Buff?

Thanks very much for the message of support on my talk page. It's nice to feel that someone actually cares what you do. Coincidentally, you helped me just by leaving that comment. Upon checking your contributions, I saw Missouri v. Holland, which I knew hadn't been on the List of United States Supreme Court cases because I've already gotten past the case citations for the 1920s. I formatted that article and added it to the list.

I am, in fact, not an attorney or in law school. I am an Economics and Political Science double major and still in my early 20s. I simply happen to have a strong interest in law and found that I have the ability to read and understand the supreme court cases, which is a large task, because they are often mind-numbing. If you haven't checked it out yet, you should see my sub-page regarding my project to improve the Supreme Court case articles on Wikipedia. And if you have any time, any help you can give would be appreciated.

Thanks again for the encouragement and if you see any more articles that are not on the list of cases, please let me know or add them yourself. I'm confident that eventually someone who is looking for information regarding a certain type of case law will be able to easily navigate through the articles and find the information they are looking for rather than feeling confused. That's my goal! Skyler 21:21, Sep 28, 2004 (UTC)

Missouri v. Holland

After reading Justice Holmes' opinion, it seems to me that you have described the case very well. I had not noticed that you were the originator of the article, but I am impressed. You wrote close to a full article on a Supreme Court case, while most only write stubs. All it needs is a little clean up in the writing style, adding an outline and adding an external link to the opinion and it would be a very valuable source to anyone looking into case law involving states' rights.

If you have written any other articles on cases or if you are able to, I would love to see them as well. You are obviously knowledgeable enough. I think anyone could understand the majority of the article with the way you put it.

On a side note to your previous comment, I aspired to be a lawyer from the age of about 10 to maybe 19 or 20. Then I discovered Economics. A few years later, I discovered Politics and now here I am. I still plan to get my J.D. in corporate law, but I doubt I will ever get a license. I guess it just became more of a side hobby now. Some might find it to be a strange hobby, but people also found it strange that I occasionally enjoy reading corporate annual reports. I just love fields that you can really get into I guess. There are just so many interesting aspects of law and they all affect our lives (often without us noticing).

I look forward to reading more of your contributions. Thank you for the article. It is now a great contribution to the project at hand.

Conservatives

Haven't read enough of T.C. Boyle to have an opinion, and Batchelor not at all. If you use the word "writers" rather than "novelists", that will allow you to include Eliot. -- Jmabel 22:03, Sep 29, 2004 (UTC)

Voting rights

Hi! After reading in US News and World Report that Native Americans were only granted the right to vote in 1924, I googled and cribbed by dates from here: History of the Right to Vote in the U.S.. Correct, amend, change, etc. I just thought the Native American voting rights hadn't gotten enough attention. Cheers. jengod 18:41, Oct 4, 2004 (UTC)

Dashes

Haha, right, wiki will finally start auto-changing dashes. Heh. You're funny. ;)

We'll see, but til then, we should stick with the manual of style... such changes are easy (if time-consuming) to fix if/when the change comes. It was an isolated incident, I just happened to notice the em-dash in my watchlist.

(Assuming this is about changing the m-dash to an n-dash :)) --Golbez 18:16, Oct 7, 2004 (UTC)

Extensive edits to your work.

I copyedited, organised to sections, etc. Canadian football moved the comparison section to Comparison of Canadian and American football, (there was so much good info there it deserved its own article... whew, man I'm not even a football fan at all, just got sucked into the football universe by accident. Anyway, would you mind checking my work for accuracy, etc? You were the last one to edit Canadian football ... if you don't have time, let me know, and I'll have someone else look it over. Thanks! BTW, very very good article. Now it's 2 good articles.Pedant 01:09, 2004 Nov 6 (UTC)

reply from Pedant

I like what you've done with the article(s).

Thanks, I don't know much about football but I thought it could use some organising, sections etc. so the table of contents would come into play,

I guess the biggest thing that I want to see back in there is something about how the converts can be "reversed", in other words how the team on defence can block the kick, pick up the fumble, intercept the pass and get the two points for themselves, which can be a huge play and cuts the effective value of a touchdown from seven to four points.

Like I said, I don't know anything about football, lol, I like to edit articles I don't know anything about, an ignorant POV can sometimes be valuable in making things easier to understand. Also I like to turn lists into paragraphs when possible... I didn't think I removed any information, and I left the summary of differences in the [Canadian football]] article, thought the article overlap worked well. If I actually removed any info, it was unintentional. If you would, please add that info you mentioned above to the page if it's appropriate -- I have no idea what that reversing the conversion means really, or if you mean Canadian football or American football. It sounds like its important, so please put it in if you would.

I also think that it needs to be mentioned how this can happen in U.S. college football, but not high school or pro ball, so here, it is the collegiate game that is the most like Canadian. (Looks like we almost need pages on "Differences between American high school football and American college football", and "Differences between American college football and NFL football" too, doesn't it?)

Big yes on that, if they aren't already written. Maybe, since the Canadian v American football article is at Comparison of Canadian and American football the article might profitably be called Comparison of American High School/College/NFL football, or similar name for consistency -- if it would be possible to fit it in one article. If you make a list of differences between them, I'd be glad to format it into paragraphs, or any help I could be.. just ask, would be happy to collaborate on it, but I just don't have the info, and if I write it from scratch it will be poor quality. Like I said, when it comes to football I'm just flat ignorant. (Well actually, as of today, I know a lot about the difference between Canadian Football and American Football now, lol, but that's about it)

The article is also right about the CFL being too big and too good to be a minor league.

That was already there? I didn't put it in...

Also, do we need a redirect from CFL to Canadian Football League or do we need a disambig there?

I usually do a piped link: CFL which makes a link like this: CFL, that is really the same as this: Canadian Football League (I think it saves server bandwidth over just linking to: CFL, and then letting the server redirect, but that might just be superstitious, I'm not real familiar with the inner workings of the wiki software yet.) ...but I'm a big fan of redirecting any variation of anything... Two ways to address this (possible) issue:
1) Do an exhaustive search, and if there is another use of the name "CFL", then make a CFL (disambiguation) page, and write articles on all the other CFLs, or leave them red-linked. (this is the not easy way, lol)
2) easy way: Make CFL a redirect to Canadian Football League, then if anyone wants to make a Canadian Federation of Labor article, or a Colorado Friends of Liberty article or anything, they will see the redirect, and (hopefully) disambiguate at that point. (I think if we don't have some reason to disambiguate now, that it can wait until later.)
I had to make a disambig page for Inside Out all because I was working on the article Chinese art: added reference to China being a world leader in Juggling and related arts, dropped in on my old friend, Juggling to check for other related arts to include in the article (did you know that the Encyclopedia Brittanica publicly insulted us by saying that our article on Chinese Art was too short, comparing it with one of our longer articles... the "gauntlet was picked up" by some of us which is how I got there.) I loked at the 'what links here' on Juggling, saw Mills Mess on the list... massaged that article a while, saw that Rubenstein's Revenge was too little info for a full article, was basically an excuse tolink to some guy's website... merged rube's revenge into Mills Mess, since it's a subvariant with an added flourish, remembered that the same pattern was called 'inside out' if it was done with 'chops' (ya gotta read the article to get it maybe), then, intending to redirect Inside Out to Mills Mess, I discovered that Inside Out is some punk rock band, and that they had a feeble disambiguation at the top of their article. The article was long enought that it seemed it could be considered the primary article, since Inside Out, the juggling trick, was going into Mills Mess anyway, which it really needed, because M's Mess was a stub. So I made [[Inside Out(disambiguation)], added the info to Mills Mess, fixed the links that used to 'link here', one of which was on a talk page of another editor, I browsed that for a bit and somehow ended on Canadian football, couldn't resist turning the list into prose, and adding sections... the Table of Contents got so long that I decided the Comparison of Canadian and American football info could well be another separate article all onits own. So I did that, dropped you a note, and voila! here we are.  :-)

I just searched for "Canadian Federation of Labour" and didn't find anything – wasn't there/isn't there such a body, even one called that at least at some point and the counterpart to the American Federaton of Labor? (I know that there is a Canadian Auto Workers counterpart to the United Auto Workers.)

I don't know. I vote for doing the disambig page later if it turns up. Nice to meet you btw. (oh yeah, you can answer on my page or here on your page if you like, both works for me... I've got your page on my watchlist. If you put 'pedant' in your edit summary I'll see it)Pedant 02:39, 2004 Nov 6 (UTC)

substub

Okay, maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick with this substub business. Whenever I see a substub that I think ought to grow into a proper article, I try to add whatever I can to it and make it a stub, because I was under the impression that substub was a signal that an article should be a candidate for speedy deletion. Am I going about this wrong? (Oh, new thought: maybe your comment from before wasn't sarcastic!...) QuartierLatin1968 02:55, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)

League of Lombard

Hi, I simply seen that there is the article Lombard League that covers both the historical movement and the political party, then it's a better translation of the italian name "lega lombarda". The previous form "League of Lombardy" translated literally in Italian is "lega della lombardia". So, the form "Lombard League" is the correct one, in my opionion, for both the historical and modern movements. Lornova 17:43, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)

About Soul Food and Home Rule

Hi. Thanks for stopping by my page. On soul food -- well, just a little cleanup and a few additions. Actually, "fat back" is already there, as "fatback." (I think I'd added it already -- at least I think I was the one who put it in.) As far as chow-chow, I figured the "vegetables" covered just about everything, but feel free to add whatever you want. After all, that's what good cooks do. :-) I'm glad to know you've done a piece on home rule in the District. It's an important subject, and I have a number of friends who are active in the Free DC movement. I'll definitely check it out when I have an opportunity and let you know what I think. Deleation of schools

Because to the principal, the teachers, the students, and the parents, the school is a very large part of thier lives, and thus to them quite notable. And to someone looking to move into the area, some information about the local primary school, could well be quite useful. Notability is completely subjective. The real question is if there are enough editors to make sure that minor articles like these stay NPOV and free from vandalism. And to find out the answer to that question we must keep the article, and let time do its work for however long it takes for the answer to become clear. The bellman 05:54, 2004 Nov 30 (UTC)

Campolo

Thanks for your comments. Tony Campolo is certainly a controversial figure, as can be seen in part here [1] (http://www.apologeticsindex.org/c71.html) due to his rather unusual stances on a number of issues, and the way in which he presents his ideas. Ron Nash's book Why the Left is Not Right discusses the Christian Left in more detail, but from a religiously conservative view. Michaelh 06:32, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to...

 1. ...all U.S. state, county, and city articles...
 2. ...all articles...

using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) version 1.0 and 2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to the GFDL (which every contribution made to Wikipedia is licensed under), but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles (See the Multi-licensing Guide for more information). Since you are among the top 1000 most active Wikipedians, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles.

Nutshell: Wikipedia articles can be shared with any other GFDL project but open/free projects using the incompatible Creative Commons Licenses (e.g. WikiTravel) can't use our stuff and we can't use theirs. It is important to us that other free projects can use our stuff. So we use their licenses too.

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual template (or MultiLicensePD for public domain) into their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual with MultiLicensePD. If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know at my talk page what you think. -- Ram-Man 18:07, Nov 30, 2004 (UTC)

Nashville

I don't recall ever being there. I may have driven through it, but that's about it. I just happened to look into it a bit when this came up on VfD. I enjoy researching municipalities, more for the communities, landmarks, and natural features than for the government though, and have spent considerable time puzzling out how Census Bureau entries correspond to the real-world. olderwiser 18:35, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)

NY State Constitution

I'm not sure about the constitution, but I believe the NYS county law specifically applies counties that are not entirely contained within a city. The only counties that do not qualify are the 5 boroughs. Therefore, all counties except the five boroughs have functioning county governments. Further, all cities, towns and villages (which are called "municipal corporations" or "municipalities") have functioning governemnts. Schenectedy county contains other municipalities besides the city of Schenectedy, so under any definition, it is not a consolidated city-county (though a few others on the list seem to be in the same boat, but I'm not going to investigate the laws of other states). Oddly, there are five consolidated town/villages in N.Y. (see Political subdivisions of New York State#Town). Nelson Ricardo 18:37, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the insights on Tennessee. You seem knowledgable enough to create an article titled Political subdivisions of Tennessee, similar to what has been done for N.Y. Nelson Ricardo 02:18, Dec 2, 2004 (UTC)

I'm still not sure what the deal with Sen. Williams/Jengod was, but thanks for fixing it. And double thanks for the Maine info--truth be told, I didn't know that--I've been meaning to research it! Best, jengod 20:18, Dec 2, 2004 (UTC)

Tennessee State Constitution

Wow, that is a long article. I've added it to my watch list and will look when I have chance. One sugesstion: add a link to the full text (you can probably find a state govt. web site with it). Nelson Ricardo 19:07, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)

I have a question

Hi I am not sure what to do about this but something drastic has happened to the article that I created as The Plain Truth. What I created was a non-POV and factual article, now it rambles on about "Rev. Armstrong" - a term that does not belong in the article. The last version I created was on 17:45, 9 Dec 2004 and now it looks like someone has deliberately screwed it up into a big ramble. I can see why you added your remarks but what you are commenting on is after the vandalism. I want to give you a head's up that I am going to repaste the last copy mentioned above to a new copy in order to restore it. Please take another look and see what I am rambling on about. Thanks. MPLX/MH 05:50, 12 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Sorry, honest. I misundestood what had happened. I saw the bot change then your two edits and your notes which did not seem to correspond with the text - especially when I noticed a link for Jehovah's Witnesses that had a misspelling and did not work and the addition of "Roman Catholics" which did not work either. That plus the "Rev" bit led me to assume that something was amiss. Sorry if I upset you, but I do appreciate your response. But by the time your answer cropped up I had just seen your comment on the Talk page, so I commented there. I would like to discuss this with you. Please take a look at the Talk page and see what I wrote. I may not be able to get back with you until Monday, depending on a water heater problem that I have to fix tomorrow. MPLX/MH 06:19, 12 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Thank you for your comments - I really do appreciate them and yes, I would like to work with you in order to create an "omnibus" of related articles on Armstrong. I also agree with your approach against personal attacks which get into the more seamy side of things. I related that which should be related, for instance I created a page for Michael Dennis Rohan and contributed the religious notes on the Bobby Fischer article. Both seem to be totally nuts but I have tried to treat them with some degree of respect within the articles or at least show a point of reference for their actions. I have already created bios for Basil Wolverton and Art Gilmore and started to disassemble the articles on "Anglo-Israelism" and "British Israelism" in order to create a series of cross-referenced pages leading to a Lost Ten Tribes (disambiguation) page. This in turn has created more links to the Stone of Scone and all of its various names and the Pentecostal movement which had a big hand in the Lost Ten Tribes theory. I also wanted to undo someone's comments linking Armstrong with antisemetic Christian Identity. There are more pages on this but I am also creating other pages that are not directly related but related to my own interest group. I am really here to practice because I have a project that I want to get off the ground in 2005 and Wikipedia and its software is something that I think is the wave of the future. My interest is in the Plone-Zope platform but I admit to being a writer and not a geek. Right now I need more geek than writing knowledge. Anyway, back to square one I don't know how to make a template either. Perhaps we can rope in someone else who can so that we can join all of these articles up. There should be illustrations and pictures up there as well. MPLX/MH 04:44, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Template for WWCG etc.

I went to another article and discovered how they had put their template together and then modified it:

Other pages related to the Worldwide Church of God as a subject

Herbert W. Armstrong profile | Radio Church of God brief history | Lost Ten Tribes links to related theories | 1975 in Prophecy! theory of two time cycles | The_World_Tomorrow radio and television broadcasts | The_Plain_Truth magazine history | Ambassador University | Big Sandy history of Texas campus location | Bricket Wood history of UK campus location | Ambassador International Cultural Foundation history | Ambassador Auditorium history | Garner Ted Armstrong profile | Stanley Rader profile | Basil Wolverton profile | Art Gilmore profile | Michael Dennis Rohan and Al Asqa mosque arson | Bobby Fischer religious affiliation

It has a basic list but can be added to. I have inserted it at the very bottom of each page just above the Category. It is tailored to each page with a different heading on each one - but same contents except for the content of that particular page. I am trying to build an omnibus of all of the different Lost Ten Tribes theories right now with are found via: Lost Ten Tribes (disambiguation). Please add your two cents worth to the template. I am sure other things should be linked. MPLX/MH 05:19, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Equal Protection Clause

Hello, I am soliciting comments from all those Wikipedians whose edits to legal articles I've noticed. I've been editing Equal Protection Clause, submitted it to peer review, and now have nominated it for featured article status. Please tell me what you think of it, and if you support it, please add your support at the page written above (or, of course, add your objections). Thanks so much, Hydriotaphia 01:09, Dec 28, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments and for your qualified support. May I ask you more precisely what you mean by your reference to the "collegiate admissions process"? Do you want more links within the Equal Protection Clause article to articles about that process, or do you want more information about how Clause affects the admissions process? If the latter, would it be acceptable to you if I simply expand on the references to Grutter v. Bollinger and Gratz v. Bollinger? Best, Hydriotaphia 08:31, Dec 28, 2004 (UTC)

Red River

Hello, I live in the general area as you, and in my creations of articles, did not find a article on the Red River (of Tennessee) or the Red River of Kentucky (I believe that is more confusing as there is two Red Rivers in Kentucky.) Nothing I typed linked to any article, and so thought it had not been created. Problem is, only after I created an article on only the Red River of Tennessee, not seeing yours, I go back to the Clarksville, Tennessee article, of which I am editing currently, and clicked on 'What links here' for the first time. I then find that the article I wrote is essentially the same as your Red River (Tennessee and Kentucky). Yours is better but could I merge mine with yours somehow? -- Riffsyphon1024 01:34, 12 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Soap articles

I have added title cards to many of the older soap articles, from what I have in my archives. Feel free to check them out. (ex. Search for Tomorrow, The Secret Storm, The Edge of Night, Love of Life, Ryan's Hope, As the World Turns, Guiding Light, etc.) I ended up getting the captures in a fairly crude way since I know next to nothing about computer-to-television cables, and all that.

The quality is not the best but I see it as better than nothing at all. Mike H 10:17, Feb 12, 2005 (UTC)

Zentraler Sanitäsdienst

Hmm, if Central Medical Services is only ever known by its german name, I figure we should move it to Zentraler Sanitäsdienst. That's how Bundeswehr and Stasi are, for example. -- John Fader (talk • contribs) 00:11, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Improved article

Your welcome. As a former member, I want to make sure that both sides get equal treatment. Back when I was a member (circ. 1999), I was concerned about how the Internet had mostly negative bias against INC. --LBMixPro(Holla back!) 01:41, Mar 28, 2005 (UTC)

Edit War affecting link vote

Hey, I need your help with the INC edit war. I noticed you made a vote in the INC links section dispute. The links section was changed during the voting period between 06:28, May 19, 2005. and it's current edit of 2 pro to 4 con. "Delete One" may now have different meanings to different voters. Since you voted before, please include a view to view ratio such as 2 pro to 3 con, or 1 pro to 1 con) in order to clarify your vote. Sorry for the inconvienence. As as sysop, what can you do to prevent these page reverts? Can you lock the page or something? --LBMixPro(Speak on it!) 02:29, May 20, 2005 (UTC)

Admin nomination?

Hey Rlquall, would it be OK if I nominated you to be a Wikipedia admin? Would you have any interest in being an adminstrator? Basically that just means that you have the ability to delete or protect pages and rollback vandalism. You certainly have enough Wikipedia experience to merit it, IMO. Kaldari 21:59, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

You have now been nominated for adminship. Please go here to accept the nomination and briefly answer the candidate questions: Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Rlquall. Good luck. Kaldari 01:53, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

You should probably answer the candidate questions ASAP, as they are an important factor in whether or not people will vote to approve you. Hope I'm not putting you on the spot, I just think that your editing experience would make you a good candidate. Kaldari 04:33, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

On the question about admin chores, you should probably mention how having access to admin functions will help you as an editor, ex. better protect controversial articles against vandals, etc. You may also want to consider some of the tasks commonly done by admins - facilitating Votes for Deletion, Arbitration, etc. and see if any of them interest you. Of course how much you want to bite off is entirely up to you :) Kaldari 05:02, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Response

Well, you're very welcome. I have faith in your capabilities, and I appreciate your kind words. I remind you that User:Alex S inspired my talk page design. Also, I read and fully enjoy CAD; nobody knows video games like Tim Buckley. Thanks again for the flattery.  ;) --Merovingian (t) (c) (w) 05:06, Mar 29, 2005 (UTC)

Mount Olivet Cemetery

Wow, I can't believe we both started articles about Mt. Olivet Cemetery on the SAME DAY! What are the odds? Looks like I beat you by a few hours though ;) I'll go ahead and merge them... Kaldari 22:13, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Mayors of Nashville

Once again, we are thinking the same thing. I agree that the Mayors of Nashville should be expanded to include pre-Metro mayors. I've already written an article for one of the more prominent pre-metro Mayors, Thomas A. Kercheval. Maybe I can find some info on them at the downtown library. Any other suggestions for resources? Invitation to join wikiproject Business world

Congratulations

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. Please be especially careful about blocking logged-in users because of the ill will that can result when that is done without careful consideration. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful.

Sanatorium not in Wiktionary

I searched for Sanatorium in Wikipedia. The following was displayed: This needs to be improved beyond "dic-def" status, and the current article moved to Wiktionary, IMHO. When I went to Wiktionary the term Sanatorium is not found. Please help.Swami Vimokshananda 15:49, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Cats

Hello. I didn't think "loosely" applied because many of the lyrics are straight from Eliot (the notable exception being "Memory"). I don't think it has to be a direct adaptation in order for the word "loosely" not to apply. I think it's fine to say it's Cats is "based" on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, and I noted that's what the Cats article says before editing Old Deuteronomy. Hope that explanation suffices. Awesome job on the Centennial Park article! I'll see if I can get down there one of these days to take some photos for it. Kaldari 22:35, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

U.S. Highway 70S

Guess I should stick to editing things I know more about :) For some reason I thought highways followed the same naming conventions as interstates, where the 'S' would indicate direction you're traveling on it rather than the location of the road, but I stand corrected. Thanks for clearing up my confusion. Kaldari 14:05, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Borgolf

My only objection really is that none of the article is verifiable. Doing a search for borgolf on Google turns up nothing, and there are no sources in the article. It seems to all be original research. Although I have to admit the article is quite entertaining. Probably a good candidate for Wikipedia:Bad Jokes and Other Deleted Nonsense. Kaldari 00:33, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

borgolf

I dont know if it's "original research" any more so than summarizing the plot of a tv show episodes, about which there are thousands of wikipedia articles. I did not invent borgolf, but I did play it that weekend in nashville, along with dozens others. I don't know about campus newspaper coverage; I know my school did not write any articles about it yet. As for verifying it is being played on other campuses, several friends at those schools have confirmed it, and how would they even _know_ about it if as you say it does not Google? Hope this answers your questions ---FoodMarket talk! 04:17, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks (indoor soccer)

Hi Rlquall,

Thank you for your note regarding adding the disambig to indoor football. Indeed the football-naming debate seems to go on and on! We simply need to acknowledge that Wikipedia has international scope, that the term football has different meanings in different contexts, and that as such we must ensure our articles are as navigation friendly as possible when it comes to finding the information we want on a specific topic.

Cheers, --Daveb 12:38, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

greetings from a fellow Statlers fan

Dear Rlquall, Just wanted to say "hi!". good to see a Statler's fan on wiki, i presume judging from your contribution to their article. all the best! Mayumashu 17:57, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Wish i would have watched the show the Statlers had when i had the chance (TNN was cable tv where i lived then - now i live in Japan, believe TNN is no longer cable in Nova Scotia where i grew up, and of the course the show is no longer made [was cut?]) all a shame, so i try making up for it enjoying wiki for one! i can imagine the Statlers would be great jokers - their tunes are great for one for their take on the ironies of life. like to say too if i were to travel in the States, Tennessee s always been at the top of my list - seems like an interesting place. good talking to ya dude - all the best! A misspelled link

Hi, the link Lomardy you've added HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Pope_Zacharias&diff=prev&oldid=13124916) leads to nowhere – but I'm not sure whether you meant Lombardy or Lombards, so please correct it yourself. CiaPan 15:33, 5 May 2005 (UTC)

Barren Fork River

Hry, thanks for you note. To be honest, I don't even remember putting that cleanup tag on, it was over a month ago! It must have been during some frenzied, late-night Random Page patrol. If it looks fine to you it's fine with me. For future reference I'll not be offended at all if you take it off without talking to me first. --Dmcdevit 22:41, 9 May 2005 (UTC)

Iglesia Ni Cristo

I need your help regarding user:emico. He has consistently tried to spread pro-INC bias towards the Iglesia ni Cristo, Felix Manalo and Erano Manalo articles, while his userpage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Emico) shows a complete disregard for Wikipedia rules. He has already tried to revert the Bereans article back into his own personal bias and seems that he will not stop until the entire Wikipedia has been placed in line with his POV. I would appreciate it if you could talk to him about stopping this on the talk pages of the Iglesia ni Cristo, Bereans and Manalo articles. Thank you. --Onlytofind 04:55, 29 May 2005 (UTC)

Emico has become more obnoxious and less willing to listen to reason since that point, and two other users, RayGirvan, DJ Clayworth and I agree that he should be banned from editing articles on a RFC page I started Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Emico. I would sincerely appreciate your input when you have the time.--Onlytofind 21:50, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

Humanbot

Hi, I noticed you cleaned up some of my inadvertant mess in Liberia. I used a tool called humanbot, which has some bugs (removing "+" signs). See User talk:Humanbot. I manually checked all my humanbot edits, and reverted when necessary.

There were still issues in Liberia after your edits, so I reverted to the version before I touched it.

Thanks for the help.

Nashville neighborhoods

Before we do comprehensive work on Nashville neighborhoods, I'd actually like to see more work done on the main Nashville article. It's still pretty lacking in a lot of areas, IMO. It would be awesome if we could develop it to the point of splitting off subarticles for history, culture, media, etc. I think the minor neighborhoods should be low priority, but of course I'm not going to object if you feel like working on them :) Kaldari 21:02, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I agree that Memphis's neighborhood list is way too red-link heavy. I think the best way to do it would probably be to have a link from the main Nashville article to a List of neighborhoods in Nashville, Tennessee article. Then that list would list all the neighborhoods, but only link the ones that actually had articles (since I don't imagine that all the neighborhoods will ever have their own articles). Kaldari 22:28, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I'd be glad to help contribute to the Nashville neighborhoods project. Just let me know how to get started. -Ichabod 01:33, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Per your query, I'm inclined to think that taking the Nashville article down to the neighborhood level would be overkill. The state of the Memphis list seems to indicate low interest/demand for fine details of this type. So I'd vote no.
On the other hand, I don't think there's any reason to be offended by lots of red links. On the eventualist principle, if the link is worthwhile, the wiki can wait until the content appears. So if you feel strongly about it, have at it and just have patience. RivGuySC 02:11, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Schools

I'm afraid that getting rid of schoolcruft is a lost cause, but I will continue to vote keep on all teachers, principals and school janitors so we can be consistant. RickK 21:14, Jun 14, 2005 (UTC)

EMERGENCY:Input needed on the Iglesia ni Cristo page

It seems that all discord has broken loose, and the Iglesia ni Cristo members are trying to start an edit war on the Iglesia ni Cristo to push it towards their POV, against Wikipedia rules. Please check the talk section of this page and give your input. Things are getting much worse!--Onlytofind 08:56, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Proposed "Neighborhoods of Nashville" project

I don't have the time to work on a Neighborhoods of Nashville project much, but I'd probably help some from time to time. Good luck if you decide to persue it. Kevin Rector (talk) 03:09, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)

 • I would like to add that Nashville still isn't quite my speciality, even though I'd still like to help myself. But I know that many communities in Montgomery County still need articles. -- Riffsyphon1024 03:30, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)
