Hi, thanks for pointing out the mistake with the image for Broomfield County, Colorado. The two images I used as sources are from the 1990 census (http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/states/colorado.gif) and the 2000 census (http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/maps/colorado_map.html). I looked at the smaller version (http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/co/zmaps/broomfield.gif) you pointed me towards, and compared it with my 2003 road atlas, so I see where it belongs. Has this county been recently created? I will try to add it into the maps as best I can. Please let me know if you find a better (larger) outline map that shows this county more clearly, since it's hard to make out on my atlas. Thanks again! -- Wapcaplet 00:37 14 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- Nevermind. I tried Google images (http://images.google.com/images?q=Broomfield+County+Colorado&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search) and got quite a few good results I can work with. Hopefully I can sneak Broomfield county in there without having to re-do all of Colorado... -- Wapcaplet 01:01 14 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Hi, I've made a few changes to White Dolphin, to bring it into line with dolphin, Cetacea and the other dolphin articles. From the scientific name, it must be the Chinese White Dolphin, so I've moved it to that name. It's probably more commonly known now as the Indo-Pacific Hump-backed Dolphin, so I've put that as a redirect. I've also created a link from dolphin. I hope this is OK, Jim
Hi, Thanks for seconding my admin request on cy -- there's not many articles on there at the moment, and what there is seems to have been put on by people just experimenting, so I'm trying to lead by example and improving the articles! Sorting out the language locale file is a pain too -- the language just doesn't have lots of IT words so there are circumlocutions aplenty! -- Arwel 00:01 15 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Hi Hep,
I see you reverted changes on the International Gay and Lesbian Association. You may be interested to know that it probably as User:DW again. In his last apparition he visited a lot of pages associated with paedophilia, etc. This anonymous user is using one of DW's IPs and visiting the same pages and making the same edits. I have blocked the IP. FearÉIREANN 04:26 15 Jul 2003 (UTC)
NP. When I did the big check-up before on his identities I came across that number. The moment I saw the number and the pages edited I immediately got suspicious but just checked back on my notes about him and it was pretty easy to put two and two together. Will we ever be rid of this moron? :-( FearÉIREANN 04:32 15 Jul 2003 (UTC)
I see we've been switching off deleting pages of the guy systematically adding external links to gutenberg.net.au. Should this guy be blocked temporarily, or just keep deleting stuff as it appears? I added a request to stop to his talk page, but since he's not logged in, hard to tell if it's been read. --Delirium 04:35 15 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- (Re: reply on my talk page) Alright. I thought it might be a script, but a few of the links have been added to existing articles, and one of them was even edited subsequently several times to fix formatting, so looks like an actual person who for some reason thinks this is a good idea. Unless it's the webmaster of that site trying to spam links, I'm baffled. --Delirium 04:39 15 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Thanks! Got a nice new scanner for my bday, got lots of obscure little paper artifacts to illustrate pages with. Not sure what you're asking re 1889s, the underlying stamp is a generic French Colonies. I don't have a postal history ref for Indochina, but they probably ran out of 5c, a regular occurrence in remote places, and surcharged their 35c values because it was the least popular denomination and thus there were plenty on hand (other colonies also seemed to choose the 35c first), adding colony name and bosses' initials out of pure randomness. But that's just a guess; perhaps I can hit the philatelic section at the Sunnyvale library (it's quite extensive) the next time I visit the mothership aka Apple corp hq :-) . Stan 04:49 15 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Nice to see you are still with us. Can you direct me to the most relevant pages about the utilities and such that have to do with dealing with those persistent and historic banned users. I've so far stayed off from those confrontations, because I didn't think I had enough backround to do it usefully. But last night (well over here it was last night) has changed my outlook. I want to help in protecting this site. I still have a lot to learn, but maybe you could give me some pointers? -- Cimon Avaro on a pogo-stick 21:55 16 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Hello Hephaestos
Of course, I am following comments made on all the gaia topics. I think you just made a mistake, and Entmoots has not removed any comments. The stuff you restored somehow slipped from your view and is now in double in the page. I think you were perhaps slightly bold in immediately thinking the worse from another editor. Did you have any problem with him that you immediately think the worse has been done and threaten a ban ? I would think that perhaps an apology would not be out of line :-) Btw, if such is your reaction in front of rephrasing other people comments, you may call for a ban on me to :-) Anthère 00:22 18 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out; all I saw was the ad hominems (from both sides) and the big red block in the diff. I appreciate folks keeping me on my toes. :) - Hephaestos
- Oh, Heph, I was not watching you :-) I was watching my favorite articles in trouble for ever. Hep, did you notice, Erik just removed one of my comment from the talk page as well. Would not a comment about banning offense be in order ? :-)))))
- Possibly ;) but I'll wait til tomorrow when my brain's more functional. *smirk* Hephaestos
thanks for the apology you offered :-) User:anthere
Thanks for pointing out the missing image for Pueblo County. I finally managed to correctly upload it on the third try :-) -- Wapcaplet 17:27 18 Jul 2003 (UTC)
The image for DeKalb County, Illinois is Image:Map of Illinois highlighting Dekalb County.png (lowercase K). Seems to be a rare problem caused by the ambiguity in the map I used as a source (http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/maps/illinois_map.html), which does not do camel-case inside county names except for i.e. McHenry. Probably harmless to leave the lowercase in the image name, but feel free to move it to the proper name if you want. Also, according to that map, and to the 2000 US census (http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/17/17039.html), it's "De Witt", with a space (and, having grown up in central IL, I'm fairly sure that's how they spell it locally also); perhaps DeWitt County, Illinois should be moved. Thanks for catching those. Thanks also for all your hard work in inserting the images into articles! Ram-Man seems to have gotten busy with other things, and I doubt Rambot would have kindly informed me of the missing/broken images as you have done. Let me know if you find any others. -- Wapcaplet 22:46 18 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- Well, I've moved DeWitt to De Witt (and found that several pages were already linking to that spelling), but now I'm not so sure. Google searching turned up more than twice as many results for "DeWitt" as for "De Witt"; sometimes it's even "Dewitt". The county (and city) are named for DeWitt Clinton, which would seem to indicate the no-space spelling. I've no idea which is more correct, but I'd be tempted to go with what the US Census uses, which is "De Witt." Somewhere there's gotta be a good explanation for where the space came from... -- Wapcaplet 22:55 18 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Jmccann Sat Jul 19 14:06:44 PDT 2003 Why did you redirect Hipparchos to Hipparchus? Hipparchus is badly broken and Hipparchos was the fixed up article. Are you aware of this?
- I wouldn't exactly characterize Hipparchos as "fixed up"; what it mainly was was a re-arragement of the paragraphs of the other one. (There were some additions, I moved those before making the redirect). Nor would I really call Hipparchus "broken" (although it could use some work, and had a lot of grammar problems that I think I mostly fixed).
- The main thing is that first of all, we do not need two Wikipedia articles on the same person. What needs to be fixed in the Hipparchus article can be done in the existing article. Second, "Hipparchos" does not meet the criteria for naming conventions as it is a comparatively rare spelling in English, so it needs to be a redirect.
- Hope this explains things. - Hephaestos 21:13 19 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- Jmccann Sat Jul 19 22:46:58 PDT 2003 Hipparchos was in better shape.
There was an editing war recently which resulted in the split. I hope it does not flare up again.
Please do not create multiple copies of articles - if u want to fix it - fix it- dont move it and fix it somewhere else. Pizza Puzzle
once this combination of greed and arrogance has misled him into a sense of undefeatable capability and power, as he takes the road of falsehood and aggression, committing the most heinous acts and proceeding from that sick imagination, to fall down the precipice and then into hell.
would u like to explain what that is saying? Pizza Puzzle
- Absolutely not. It's Saddamese and therefore beyond me. All that's really important here is that this is the only Saddam quote Wikipedians have so far been able to come up with. Maybe there's a better one. ;) Hephaestos
In the future, please do not revert to gibberish by stating that it isnt gibberish. I am glad that u agree it was gibberish. Since Im the person that added the quote in the first place, and, since it is gibberish -- id appreciate your agreement that gibberish is not conducive to a good article. Pizza Puzzle
Thanks for the advice on maps and for the comment on the articles, I will get to the mapping soonish. My text editor is acting up a bit, well quite a lot really but just not bad enough to get it fixed, hence the gaps. Ping 08:25 20 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Hephaestos, the contributions origianally made by 66.235.39.157, were legitamate. The source of this information was a program about Pat Robertson on Court TV. This user obviously started vadalising because you were reverting thier contributions. It is quite disturbing to me that you are abusing your admin powers in this manner. I hope you will look more closely next time before making blanket reverts. MB 20:25 21 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice. I'll consult you when I have more ideas after examining the structure of the article more closely. It might be difficult to determine the best periodization historically and practically (considering the basic structure of the text).172

- Does he do that often (I spent a few weeks away from Wikipedia)? If so, do you think it's time for sysops to be able to ban logged in users (perhaps via nomination or request for the "feature")? -- Notheruser 03:35, 30 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- Daily? Yikes. I don't recall the bots incident; it must've been during my break. You think a concerted group of contributors could get the ball rolling on such an implementation (maybe not as an ability for every sysop; only certain nominated ones...setting aside worries about an apparent hierarchy)? I know the developers have limited time, but it doesn't seem like it would be too hard to code as they already have the ability to ban users (so some sort of code must exist for it). -- Notheruser 03:55, 30 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- Oh sure they could get going on it, but apparently it's not a priority. Witness the numerous changes lately and this didn't get done.

- On the other hand, I'm tired and fairly tipsy, so I don't want this held against me too much when it gets read later.
- On the third hand, I love how the developers are so quick to turn off the (vital) search function whenever there's a problem. Location of country maps
Hi, I noticed you moved the map from Tuvalu to the Geography of Tuvalu page. I was wondering why, because I think they should be on both pages.
