Things that are possibly interesting about me:
I am originally from Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, but I moved to London, Ontario when I was a teenager. I have an honours BA in history from the University of Western Ontario; for various reasons I stayed at UWO for another year, where I was in classical studies as a "special student" ("Ralph, you're on special teams!"), but I didn't stay to get a second degree. Now I have essentially finished an MA at the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto, which is world-renowned and very intimidating, but on the other hand they have Latin Scrabble. I'll be starting the PhD program there in September.
According to the Centre I can read French, German, and Latin (Medieval Latin, anyway). I've only officially had two years of German and even less Latin, but I took French for about 14 years and I've absorbed it pretty well (I can't speak it fluently, but I can read it). I can sort of read Old French too, and I guess any other Romance language if I have to.
I work in the library at the Toronto Sun newspaper, and formerly I did essentially the same job at the London Free Press (but what that job is exactly is hard to explain).
My "real" webpage, if you want to call it that, is here (http://www.angelfire.com/mi/Grenfell/guitar.html), and consists mostly of guitar tablature.
I think I first came across this place through Quizbowl, and my first contribution was the Alexius IV article in January, 2003, although I didn't have a user name at that point. In June, 2003, I started contributing more regularly.
On the Wikipediholic test I once scored 116. I'm a Wikipediholic! I'm just can't get enough Wikipedihol!
I usually contribute to historical stuff - my interests are mainly medieval history, especially the Crusades and the Byzantine Empire, and also medieval England and France. I am also interested in Canadian history, ancient history, linguistics, and mythology. I sometimes contribute to some popular culture stuff too. I also like to work on those addictive lists (especially lists of rulers of medieval territories), make redirects, and add stuff to the year articles. I try to avoid controversial articles, which is pretty easy when I'm writing about some obscure noble from the Kingdom of Jerusalem, or whatever.
I have been an administrator since September 2, 2003. First you get the admin status, then you get the power, then you get the women...right?
Sandbox
If you want to see something I'm working on, you could look at my sandbox. Right now it's some fiddling around with tables for political succession boxes, and a partial list of Crusader castles.
I also did a sample of occurrences of Gdansk and Danzig in a few newspapers, which someone may find interesting.
Articles
Since this was getting unwieldy, and I'm sure no one really cares, I'll move the the articles I have worked on (that I feel are worthy of mentioning) or created to a separate page, User:Adam Bishop/articles.
Some sort of license thingy
I don't understand any of this but supposedly I need to put it on my page:
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below: Template:DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
