Succession templates
I liked the way the article series templates looked and thought it might be a good idea to use them for political succession boxes as well (using the Byzantine emperor template as an example):
First possibility - headings in a blue background (is it possible to combine them into a single blue bar?); something else would have to be put in the middle box in the second row:
Preceded by: | Byzantine Emperor | Succeeded by: |
{{{Prev}}} | Byzantine Emperor {{{CoEmperor}}} | {{{Next}}} |
<P>
Second possibility - only one heading in blue; same problem with the middle box:<P>
Byzantine Emperor | ||
---|---|---|
Preceded by: {{{Prev}}} | Byzantine Emperor {{{CoEmperor}}} | Succeeded by: {{{Next}}} |
<P>
Third possibility - no middle box at all, but that wouldn't work when there are co-rulers:<P>
Byzantine Emperor | |
---|---|
Preceded by: {{{Prev}}} | Succeeded by: {{{Next}}} |
<P>
A more complicated example, mixing the article series box and the regular table, from Charles I of Sicily - I want the preceded by and succeeded by part to be like the others, and not in table boxes, but I can't figure it out yet:<P>
- In HTML+CSS I'd use something like
td.someclass { border-style:hidden; } table.anotherclass { border-style:solid; /* or whatever */ }
- I've added a bit of CSS style to your wiki markup. Hope it helps in your tweaking. Mr. Jones 20:11, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
— | King of Naples | Charles II |
William II | Prince of Achaea | |

The Jupiter template that inspired this (and from which I stole bits):<P>
Jupiter |
---|
Io | Europa | Ganymede | Callisto |
(For other moons, see: Jupiter's natural satellites) |
<P>
A succession box as they look right now:<P>
Preceded by: {{{Prev}}} | Byzantine Emperor {{{CoEmperor}}} | Succeeded by: {{{Next}}} |
<P>
The regular table for Charles I:<P>
Preceded by: Manfred | King of Sicily | Succeeded by: Peter I |
— | King of Naples | Charles II |
William II | Prince of Achaea | |
— | Count of Anjou |
