Spanair S.A., is an airline based in Palma, Majorca, Spain. It provides a scheduled passenger network within Spain and Europe, with an extension to West Africa. Worldwide charters are also flown for tour companies. Its main base is Son Sant Joan International Airport (PMI), with hubs at Barajas International Airport (MAD), Madrid and El Prat International Airport (BCN).

History
The airline was established in December 1986 and began operations in March 1988. It was set up as a joint venture between SAS and Viajes Marsans, and began operations with European charters. Long-haul flights to the USA, Mexico and the Dominican Republic were launched in 1991, followed by domestic scheduled flights in March 1994. The airline flew long-haul flights by using Boeing 767-300 aircraft to Washington and Buenos Aires briefly in the late-1990s. Spanair joined Star Alliance in 2003. The company is owned by the SAS Group (94.9%) and Grupo Marsans (5.1%). It employs 2535 staff.

Spanair operates the following scheduled services (at January 2005):
- Domestic scheduled destinations: Alicante, Asturias, Barcelona, Bilbao, Fuerteventura, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Las Palmas, Madrid, Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, Santiago de Compostela, Seville, Tenerife, Valencia and Vigo.
- International scheduled services: Ancona, Athens, Berlin, Cologne, Copenhagen, Dublin, Edinburgh, Frankfurt, Lisbon, London, Malabo, Munich, Nice, Oslo, Paris, Stockholm, Thessaloniki, Vienna and Zurich.
