Hastings is a city located in Adams County, Nebraska. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 24,064. It is the county seat of Adams CountyTemplate:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 25.8 km² (10.0 mi²). 25.5 km² (9.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.31% water. Kool-Aid was created by Edwin Perkins in Hastings, Nebraska.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 24,064 people, 9,610 households, and 5,948 families residing in the city. The population density is 945.2/km² (2,448.5/mi²). There are 10,333 housing units at an average density of 405.9/km² (1,051.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 93.39% White, 0.79% African American, 0.42% Native American, 2.02% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 2.39% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races. 5.58% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 9,610 households out of which 29.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.8% are married couples living together, 9.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.1% are non-families. 31.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.36 and the average family size is 2.98.
There is an area of Hastings known as Pine Knoll. It is near the college, but it is not typically inhabited by college students. It is mostly inhabited by lower income households.
In the city the population is spread out with 23.6% under the age of 18, 12.8% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.1 males.
