Good luck, Anthere!

Hi Anthere! Good luck in the election - I've just voted for you-) David Cannon 02:30, 31 May 2004 (UTC)

J'essayerai de faire quelque chose pendant le fin-de-semaine. -- B

That was ridiculous

You did what RickK is always accusing me of, editing another users comment in a talk page. I'd quote you the policy but what good would it do? You could just re-write it how you like. I know I have a 0% of expecting justice in regards to anything involving you, because low-level wiki-politics is 100% popularity contest, and you are popular, and I'm a step above troll (when I'm lucky). All I ask is that you reconsider your decision that there was general community agreement. I understand you might not consider me a part of the community, nor others who expressed concerns, and maybe you'd like to see me kicked out into the gutter ;) But IMO I am presently a member of this community, and this at least should be the kind of community where rules matter. I ask you to think about that, and reconsider. Sam Spade 20:00, 20 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Actually 3 people raised objections (me, Perl, and DontMessWithThis), not only me. That is not "general support of the community". Secondly, are you suggesting I have a mediation with Bcorr, or you, or what? Maybe RickK? ;) I didn't understand perfectly what you said about mediation. Sam Spade 20:38, 20 Mar 2004 (UTC)

oki, thanks. Embarassing...who was it ? :-)

Thanks for being polite

I can't say I'm overjoyed with some of the things you have done, but I have noticed that you go very far in being polite, something I try to do, but which I could at times stand to learn from you in. Thank you for that, Sam Spade 21:08, 20 Mar 2004 (UTC)

thank you for that appreciation Sam. Much to my regret, this is not always true...but I try to stay polite as much as I can :-) FirmLittleFluffyThing

AMA Coordinator

Ant, did you know we are both nominated for Coordinator of the AMA? Do you know when the election will be held? — Alex756 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Alex756 talk] 06:40, 21 Mar 2004 (UTC)

oh, euh; no to both questions. I will look later, I have to go voting :-) FirmLittleFluffyThing
Ahh! Sorry for not letting you know personally. And of course I understand your being too busy... +sj+

Lir

I'm fairly certain Lir is male. I've kept an eye on "him" since I came to the wiki, and on at least one occaision one of his "attackers" gave his legal name. Unless your more certain than I am, I suggest you go w something gender neutral to describe him on RfM, as some (many) people are offended by innacurate gender descriptions of themselves. :) Sam Spade 19:33, 21 Mar 2004 (UTC)

OK, don't worry about it. Its not a big deal to me either way, you can call him what you like. I don't even know if "he" is a "he", but since I was told by someone he was male, and named adam, thats what I will call him until I know otherwise, but you can (as usual) do as you like ;) Sam Spade 00:51, 22 Mar 2004 (UTC)

AMA Election

Ant, I've added a link at Wikipedia:Announcements and Wikipedia:Goings-on that the Wikipedia:Association of Members' Advocates is searching for a Coordinator and I have started a new page dealing with the election. Hi Anthere, Thanks for the invitation to vote on the DNA page. But I am afraid I am confused -- are we voting on the procedure for voting, or are we voting on a proposed first paragraph? I know you are putting a lot of work into this and am sorry to be such a pain in the but. Slrubenstein

Bonjour,

I checked back at the DNA page and noticed you left. You made a valiant effort to mediate the page, but if you are like myself, you probably got fed up with the chaotic discussion there. I hope they make progress without you but I have doubts. Bensaccount 16:59, 26 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Using a bot

Hello, Anthere! I want to use a bot in order to add a bulgarian interwiki to the year pages (1800-2009). It will wait 60 seconds between edits.

I've already used this bot on bg: (updating interwikies, changing table syntax) but without a bot flag. Where should I request one for user Bgbot on bg:. I've done this on meta but nobody answered. --Borislav 14:28, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hello, again. I will not use the bot until I get a permission from an administrator, and since you are a one I'm asking you :-). --Borislav 11:22, 6 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hi, who is #139? Angela. 01:22, Apr 7, 2004 (UTC)

Looxix. The other day, in spite of my attempts, he could not be set steward. (we were online on irc). He was always getting the message "you are no bureaucrat". Finally, he suggested I do as Tim mentionned on the steward page ...use the user id. 139 is loo id on test (or so he told me...I did not check...). After I did; loo succeeded to access the page. I still have not understood why it did not work, there is nothing special in loo name; FirmLittleFluffyThing
Waitasecond...I checked...Loo is not 139...why did he tell me he was ??? And if I did put the guy steward by mistake, why is he not according to the test list of participants ??? what is this ? I go ask Tim... FirmLittleFluffyThing

Sisisi, Loo is 139. No problem...except that we dunno why it did not work with his name directly.
Thanks. I was just confused because it looked like Looxix was one already and I couldn't figure out who else it could be. Angela. 22:25, Apr 7, 2004 (UTC)
I just have understand why it didn't work: I have retried and it doesn't work again, then I discovered that after a disconnect/reconnect it was working. See you later ladies :-) -- Looxix 23:44, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Manitenant oui... -B

Sigh. Not the best thing to see on arriving back. I don't know what to do about him. I told him after the first page he deleted last week that he shouldn't have but he paid no attention to me whatsoever. I totally support whatever change of policy you suggest over there. Hope you had a good Easter. Angela. 19:43, Apr 12, 2004 (UTC)

I'm stopping in for a moment -- saw you were around -- just saying "bonjour." Must go soon -- a bientot! -- BCorr|Брайен 11:19, Apr 13, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for your work on the new policies. I have no objections to them. Have you seen Tim is asking Perl to be desysopped on Meta on the mailing list? Wikisource issues are for Eclecticology to decide as he is a bureaucrat at Wikisource. Maybe you should warn him, though I guess he will see Tim's email about Perl anyway. None of the stewards should be making him a sysop or bureaucrat on fr as you have bureaucrats there. Anyway, if it does happen, please let someone uninvolved handle it. There's no need for you to abuse your power in removing it. There are plenty of other people who can do this. Please don't let him worry you. Just wait to see what the reaction to his proposed desysopping is. Angela. 12:00, Apr 13, 2004 (UTC)

Hi Anthere, I would oppose deleting that email from the mailing list database. Plank lists his name and address in full public view on his User page [1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Perl/contact), hence his quest for privacy cannot be taken seriously. Moreover, I was simply referring to information included in the header of every email he posts. Given his fervent wish to become an administrator, his efforts in the past to mislead people with regard his true identity should remain part of the public record. Plank has to learn to take responsibility for his actions. -- Viajero 14:27, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Altermondialisation

I don't want an edit war, but I do not understand your objection to linking Anti-globalization to fr:Altermondialisation. Yes, I understand that one word is not neatly a translation of the other, but the articles seem to cover approximately the same territory. Many articles link to articles on closely related but not identical topics. Consider, for example European dragon linking to ca:Drac, which includes Asian dragons. Are you simply being more purist in this case, and if so why? Or is there something else going on here? -- Jmabel 04:33, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Well, for what it is worth, few people in the movement in the English-speaking world like the term "anti-globalization", but it's rather what the press has stuck on us. Clearly, the notion of a global movement against globalization is oxymoronic. Clearly, the reality is a movement against corporate-driven globalization. But just like "anti-Semitism" means a dislike of Jews, not of all Semites, sometimes the effective meaning of a word does not correspond to its etymology. Unless I have the matter very confused (and please make your case if you think I do), what Anglophones generally call "Anti-Globalization" (or, outside the US "Anti-Globalisation") has more to do with Altermondialisation than with Antimondialisation. In any case, I presume someone could easily find there way between two French-language articles that ought, presumably, to link to one another. If you want to link to a different French language article, feel free, but having no link to any French article falsely implies that there is no closely related article in the French Wikipedia, ne c'est pas? -- Jmabel 04:55, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)
True. Note that militants apparently convinced media to rather use alter than anti. I know not whether really your anti globalization is rather our alter or our anti. There is currently an edit war on the topic on alter on fr. When things are settled, I'll see. Meanwhile, anti should be linked, not alter.

Caterpillar Walking in Circles

A Yahoo article (http://www.webpronews.com/insiderreports/searchinsider/wpn-49-20040422YahooSearchShortcuts.html) made a surpringsly honest and humble statement: "Now, does this [Yahoo's own encyclopedia article on caterpillar] beat wikipedia's caterpillar entry? Anthere,

I tried to get it right. Obviously, I failed, perhaps in part because I can find no history of exactly who did create it. We're both on the same side, so can we just try to get it right, and acknowledge the inactive nature of the account? Perhaps you would consider an edit that would do that, since it appears that you know more about it than I do.

Just saw your note on Meta and your edit to my translation. I wasn't sure what you meant by "de quiconque".

Request regarding Mediation Committee

More than two weeks ago, on April 25, the Arbitration Committee referred a case to us which it had considered regarding Anthony DiPierro and a number of other user to us here: Wikipedia:Requests_for_mediation#Issue_of_Anthony's_reverts_and_alleged_trolling.

While Anthony has agreed to mediation, so far, there has been no response from another party in order to begin working on the Anthony mediation. We have drafted a statement at User:Bcorr/mediation statement draft that we would like to post on the Requests for mediation to the Arbitration Committee and all other interested parties, but before we do so, we want to check with the rest of the Mediation Committee. Please review the statement and let me know if you approve, wish to make/suggest changes, or have another way you'd like to suggest that we proceed.

Also, in that statement we refer to ourselves as co-chairs of the committee. There was discussion at the mediation bulletin board (http://boards.wikimedia.org/viewtopic.php?t=80) on the bottom half of the page, but we wanted to confirm that there was agreement on our being co-chairs for the period noted there before we post the statement. Also, if people are amenable to our serving as co-chairs, I will add that information to the Mediation Committee page.

Please take a moment to comment on these issues at User:Bcorr/mediation statement draft.

Thanks, BCorr|Брайен 01:43, May 13, 2004 (UTC)

Good luck with your meeting tomorrow. I hope Wikipedia isn't too slow at the time. :) Angela. 14:04, May 24, 2004 (UTC)

No, it doesn't

It doesn't give value, but that has nothing to do with why people tried to censor this issue. They were attempting to insert P.C. POV into the encyclopedia, and people like that are easily distracted by minorities. It carries weight. This is why a racist will hire a black attorney, or a rapist a female lawyer. But I am attempting nothing nearly so ugly. Rather my goal is to prevent the wiki from becoming something I detest.. Newspeak. There are plenty of articles that sicken and horrify me, but the goal of the wiki is to be comprehensive, not to be acceptably tame for all. There is clearly a pro-French/pro-left POV at play here, but whatever. I think the wiki-elite have enough integrity to allow things to be done the right way when enough people insist it upon. Consensus does have some value, yes? Those who prefer to censor factually accurate, NPOV info should re-evaluate either the goals of the wiki, or themselves. p.s. If you ever have the time, it would be nice if you could help me with my problems managing the mailing list. You are an admin for the mailing list, yes? Have you ever heard of Pelletier, the 1550 mathematician who supposedly created the names ending in -illiard? That is, is the system that was adopted in 1948 referred to as "the Pelletier system?"

Which of the -illiard words are really used?

Are quadrilliards/quintilliards/sextilliards, etc. found in standard French dictionaries and textbooks?

Do I understand correctly that a billion in French was 1 000 000 000 up to 1948 and was then changed to 1 000 000 000 000?

As of 2004 today, what word do people use for 1 000 000 000 000?

Are there differences between French and Canadian usage?

Just wondering.... Dpbsmith 12:17, 3 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for your help. That's very interesting about "mille milliard" being the usual term for 1 000 000 000 000. What do you mean by "billion... scaring people?" May I quote you in Talk:Names of large numbers? Dpbsmith 01:29, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)

sentances

I am having a problem with my formatting on the mailing list. When I send a post, it comes out as one extremely long line of text, rather than the format that would be most convenient.

It is similar to when I indent thusly, and my content scrolls off of the right side of the page thusly, something which makes reading my posts less pleasent for everyone I assume, myself included.

I have tried inserting <br> but that doesn't seem to help. Any advice? Sam [Spade (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=User_talk:Sam_Spade&action=edit&section=new)] 15:03, 3 Jun 2004 (UTC)
