Orange County is a county located in the state of Vermont. As of 2000, the population is 28,226. Its county seat is Chelsea6.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,792 km² (692 mi²). 1,783 km² (689 mi²) of it is land and 8 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.46% water.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 28,226 people, 10,936 households, and 7,611 families residing in the county. The population density is 16/km² (41/mi²). There are 13,386 housing units at an average density of 8/km² (19/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.02% White, 0.24% Black or African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races. 0.58% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 10,936 households out of which 33.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.10% are married couples living together, 8.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.40% are non-families. 23.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 2.97.
In the county, the population is spread out with 25.60% under the age of 18, 7.80% from 18 to 24, 28.20% from 25 to 44, 25.60% from 45 to 64, and 12.80% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 99.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.60 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $39,855, and the median income for a family is $45,771. Males have a median income of $30,679 versus $24,144 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,784. 9.10% of the population and 6.10% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 11.40% of those under the age of 18 and 8.80% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
