List of Quebec Regional County Municipalities
|
Following is a list of the regional county municipalites, territories, and newly amalgamated cities (villes) in the province of Quebec. Quebec used to be divided into counties, but in the early 1980s switched over to a new system of county regional municipalities, which seldom follow any of the previous county borders, and only a few have kept names. All of Canada's similar regions are collectively called census divisions. Statistics Canada recognized Quebec's new system in 1991. See this site (http://www.mamsl.gouv.qc.ca/organisation/orga_hist.htm) for more information (in French).
