Cao Pi

Cáo Pī (曹丕, 187 - 226), the second son of the Chinese politician and poet Cao Cao, was the first emperor and the real founder of the Kingdom of Wei (see Three Kingdoms). After assuming control of the Wei throne he attacked the Shu and Wu kingdoms with little results then focused on politics.
Cao Pi, like his father, was a poet. The first Chinese poem using seven syllables per line (七言詩) was the poem 燕歌行 by Cao Pi.

Cao pi was the eldest Cao Cao and his concubine Lady Bien. Out of all his borthers, Cao Pi was the mostshrewd. Instead of studying hard or conducting military affairs, he was always in the presence of court officials in order to get their support. He was mostly in charge of defense at the start of his career. After the defeat of Yuan Shao at Guan Du, he wed the widow of Yuan Xi, Lazy Zhen.
In AD216, Cao Pi Defeated Tian Yin and was appointed Imperial Corps commander and deputy prime minister.
In AD 220, Cao Pi force Emperor Xian to abdicate the throne and proclaimed himself Wei Emperor. Cao Pi continued his father's war against the Kingdoms of Shu and Wu but was unsuccessful. Unlike Cao Cao he concentrate most of his effort on his home country, which prosper under his rule.
There were many internal conflict during Cao Pi rules. He demoted his brother and had two of his best friends excuted. His younger brother Cao Xiong committed suicide out of fears for his brother. Cao Pi also put Yu Jin to shame for his loss to Guan Yu, which caused him to become ill and die.
In A224, Cao Pi led a massive attack against the kingdom of Wu. His fleet was lead by Cao Zhen as commander; Zhang Liao, Zhang He, We Ping, and Xu Huang were Chief commanders; Xu Chu and Lu Qian were guards of the center army; and Xao Xiu commanded the gear guard; the stategists were Liu Ye and Jiang Ji. Due to the strategy of Xu Sheng of Wu, Cao Pi fleets was force to turn around. Shortly after they turned around, the Wei army was ambushed by Sun Shao. Cao Pi was save by Zhang Liao and Xu Huang. As they retreated further up the river Huai, They were again ambushed, this time by Ding Feng. Cao Pi got away, however, Zhang Liao was hit by an arrow in his loins. He died of his wounds soon after. Cao Pi died two years later after this battle, at the age of 39.
