Caddo Parish is a parish located in the state of Louisiana. The parish seat is Shreveport and as of 2000, the population is 252,161.

Geography
The parish has a total area of 2,427 km2 (937 mi2). 2,284 km2 (882 mi2) of it is land and 142 km2 (55 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 5.86% water.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 252,161 people, 97,974 households, and 64,956 families residing in the parish. The population density is 110/km2 (286/mi2). There are 108,296 housing units at an average density of 47/km2 (123/mi2). The racial makeup of the parish is 52.91% White, 44.61% Black or African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.69% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races. 1.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 97,974 households out of which 30.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.20% are married couples living together, 19.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.70% are non-families. 28.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.11.
In the parish the population is spread out with 26.80% under the age of 18, 10.20% from 18 to 24, 27.40% from 25 to 44, 22.00% from 45 to 64, and 13.70% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 89.70 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.90 males.
The median income for a household in the parish is $31,467, and the median income for a family is $38,872. Males have a median income of $31,664 versus $22,074 for females. The per capita income for the parish is $17,839. 21.10% of the population and 17.10% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 30.80% of those under the age of 18 and 16.10% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
