BBC Radio Stoke

BBC Radio Stoke is the BBC Local Radio service for the English city of Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas including north and mid-Staffordshire and south Cheshire. It began on 14th March 1968 as BBC Radio Stoke-on-Trent. Cheshire, although a large county, has no BBC local radio station. However, north-western areas are served by BBC Radio Merseyside and those towns in the north-east receive BBC GMR. It broadcasts from studios in Hanley, on 94.6 FM (Alsagers Bank) and 1503 AM (from Sideway) across North Staffordshire and South Cheshire. There is also a small transmitter in Stafford on 104.1 FM. Since 30 April 2004, it has been available on DAB radio across the region.
The 140ft Alsagers Bank transmitter is 2 miles west of Newcastle under Lyme, close to the M6. Stations broadcast from it can be clearly heard in most parts of northern Birmingham, and along the M6 from the M54 junction to close to the M56 junction. The transmitter also carries Signal One, a commercial station.
In the evening, from 9pm - 1am, Radio Stoke is networked with BBC local radio stations in the East Midlands, with a programme broadcast from Nottingham by Rob Underwood.
