BBC GMR (Greater Manchester Radio) is the BBC Local Radio service for the English city of Manchester and surrounding area. Launched on 10th September 1970 as Radio Manchester, it was renamed to GMR in 1988, with a brief period in 1997 under the title GMR Talk. It broadcasts from its studios on Oxford Rd, Manchester on 95.1 (Holme Moss), 104.6 FM and DAB.
Due to the height of the Holme Moss transmitter, the 95.1 FM signal can be heard over most parts of Cheshire and Merseyside.
From 5 - 6am, BBC local radio stations in the North West all broadcast Paul Graham's show. During the weekday mid-morning and weekend breakfast slots, Allan Beswick listens and muses over listeners' grievances, typically involving Manchester City Council. Allan is a combat veteran in this field, from a late night phone-in on Lancashire's Red Rose Radio (now called Rock FM) in the 1980s, for which he received a Sony Award.
During late nights, the station broadcasts the discussion, music and comedy programme Michelle Mullane Around Midnight. GMR Brass broadcasts brass band music each Sunday and is presented by John Maines.
