BBC Radio Nottingham is the BBC Local Radio service for the English county of Nottinghamshire. It broadcasts from its studios in Nottingham on 95.1 (Newark), 95.5 (Fishponds Hill, Mansfield) and 103.8 (Mapperley Hill, north Nottingham) FM, 1584 (Clipstone, near Mansfield) AM, DAB and by Real Player via the website. The signals are relatively weak, so cannot be heard well outside of Nottinghamshire. North of Worksop, Radio Sheffield broadcasting on 104.1FM from Holme Moss is the nearest station. It began on January 31st 1968.
The station links up with other East Midlands BBC local radio stations between 5 - 6am (broadcast from Lincoln) and after 7pm in the evening on weekdays. The evening show from 9pm comes from Nottingham, hosted by Rob Underwood, which used to be presented by Frances Finn who now does the lunchtime show from 12 - 2pm. Karl Cooper does the Breakfast Show from 6 - 9am. John Holmes is from 2 - 5pm. The nearest BBC TV news is East Midlands Today, which is broadcast from the space-age studios on London Road in Nottingham.
The station is credited for the first phone-in on 4 February 1968, in a programme called "What Are They Up To Now?"
Simon Mayo began his radio career here where he worked for four years in the early 1980s. Matthew Bannister, former late night host on Radio Five Live, worked as a reporter in 1978. The comedian Boothby Graffoe had a weekly show in the late 1980s for a short time, before it was taken off because of its graphic and saucy humour.
Trent FM is the most widespread and established commercial radio station in the city and is broadcast by Mapperley Hill on 96.2FM and Fishponds Hill on 96.5FM. Fishponds Hill also broadcasts Mansfield 103.2.
