BBC Radio Sheffield

BBC Radio Sheffield is the BBC Local Radio service for English metropolitan county of South Yorkshire and the North Midlands. It was the second BBC local radio station, beginning on 15th November 1967. It broadcasts from its studios in Sheffield on 88.6 (Crosspool, Sheffield), 94.7 (Chesterfield), 104.1 FM, 1035 (Broadfield Road, Sheffield) AM and DAB. It is also now available through live streaming on the internet. The strongest 104.1FM signal is broadcast at 2,500ft from the Holme Moss transmitter (actually in West Yorkshire, on the border with Derbyshire), enabling the signal to be clearly heard over much of Derbyshire and north Nottinghamshire in the Worksop area. The Crosspool transmitter on Tapton Hill also has Hallam FM on 97.4FM, Galaxy 105 on 105.6FM and Real Radio on 107.7FM. The Chesterfield transmitter also has Peak 107 FM on 107.4FM.
The afternoon show from 2 - 5pm is presented by former Crackerjack host, Bernie Clifton. From 6 - 7pm, there is the show 'Football Heaven', which is a forum for teams in Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster.
After 7pm on weekdays, the BBC local radio stations in Yorkshire join forces, apart from a few exceptions, then from 10pm Alex Hall holds the fort until 1am, with a call-in programme. On Fridays and Saturdays, Martin Kelner has his light-hearted banter, and charmingly obscure 'Late Thing' from 10pm.
See also: Hallam FM, the more popular rival. Radio Humberside has a good reception throughout South Yorkshire.
