Yucaipa is a city located in San Bernardino County, California, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 41,207.

Geography

Yucaipa is located at 34°1'49" North, 117°2'55" West (34.030275, -117.048613)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 71.9 km² (27.8 mi²). 71.9 km² (27.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.04% is water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 41,207 people, 15,193 households, and 10,680 families residing in the city. The population density is 572.7/km² (1,483.4/mi²). There are 16,112 housing units at an average density of 223.9/km² (580.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 85.21% White, 0.90% African American, 1.08% Native American, 1.18% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, 8.04% from other races, and 3.46% from two or more races. 18.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 15,193 households out of which 35.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% are married couples living together, 11.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.7% are non-families. 25.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.67 and the average family size is 3.21.

In the city the population is spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 93.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $39,144, and the median income for a family is $48,683. Males have a median income of $40,480 versus $25,957 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,949. 11.2% of the population and 8.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 13.2% of those under the age of 18 and 7.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Parks

Yucaipa is home to numerous parks, including Yucaipa Regional Park, Flag Hill Veterans Memorial Park, Seventh Street Park, and Wildwood Park.

Yucaipa Adobe

Yucaipa Adobe (California Historical Landmark #528) is located at 32183 Kentucky Street, Yucaipa (909)-795-3485. Prior to European intervention, the land occupied by Yucaipa Adobe was occupied by the Serrano Indians.

Miscellaneous

At 1:53 P.M. on Thursday, June 16th, 2005, Yucaipa experienced a 4.9 earthquake centered four miles north of the center of town. It was felt from downtown Los Angeles to some areas of San Diego. No damage was reported. It was close to, but not on, the infamous San Andreas Fault. This was the third earthquake in California in a week. The first was off the coast of Northern California and the second was close to Anza, California. Two more earthquakes occured off the coast of Northern California over the course of the next few days. These five earthquakes had many people concerned that a much bigger earthquake was coming.
