West Windsor Township is a township located in Mercer County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 21,907.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 68.2 km² (26.3 mi²). 67.4 km² (26.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.22% water.

West Windsor Township borders Princeton Township, Lawrence Township, Hamilton Township, Washington Township, East Windsor Township, and Plainsboro Township in Middlesex County.

Education

Plainsboro and West Windsor together form a regional (joint) school district. There are three elementary schools (K - 3), two upper elementary schools (4 - 5), two middle schools (6 - 8), and two high schools (9 - 12). The WW-P (West Windsor-Plainsboro) school district is one of the top learning districts in New Jersey. The high schools hold first to fifth places in many of the state's contests.

In fact, in 2004, WW-P High School North was ranked #1 in the state of New Jersey by New Jersey Monthly, and WW-P High School South was ranked #5.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 21,907 people, 7,282 households, and 5,985 families residing in the township. The population density is 325.2/km² (842.4/mi²). There are 7,450 housing units at an average density of 110.6/km² (286.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 71.53% White, 2.76% African American, 0.08% Native American, 22.76% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.08% from other races, and 1.78% from two or more races. 4.07% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,282 households out of which 50.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.3% are married couples living together, 5.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.8% are non-families. 14.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.01 and the average family size is 3.36.

In the township the population is spread out with 31.8% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 31.4% from 25 to 44, 26.2% from 45 to 64, and 6.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 98.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.8 males.

The median income for a household in the township is $116,335, and the median income for a family is $127,877. Males have a median income of $100,000 versus $56,002 for females. The per capita income for the township is $48,511. 2.5% of the population and 2.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.4% of those under the age of 18 and 2.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Landmarks

Princeton Junction station, a Northeast Corridor stop on Amtrak and NJ Transit, is located within West Windsor. Michael Weintraub Commemeration, across from West Windsor Plainsboro High School South.
