East Windsor Township is a township located in Mercer County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 24,919.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 40.7 km² (15.7 mi²). 40.5 km² (15.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.32% water.
East Windsor Township borders West Windsor Township, Washington Township, Monmouth County, and Middlesex County.
Hightstown Borough is an independent municipality located entirely within the boundaries of East Windsor Township.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 24,919 people, 9,448 households, and 6,556 families residing in the township. The population density is 614.8/km² (1,592.8/mi²). There are 9,880 housing units at an average density of 243.8/km² (631.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 74.42% White, 8.90% African American, 0.20% Native American, 9.55% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 4.61% from other races, and 2.20% from two or more races. 14.28% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 9,448 households out of which 34.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.6% are married couples living together, 9.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.6% are non-families. 24.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.12.
In the township the population is spread out with 24.0% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 35.2% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 8.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.6 males.
The median income for a household in the township is $63,616, and the median income for a family is $73,461. Males have a median income of $50,875 versus $35,260 for females.
