Wells is a city located in Elko County, Nevada. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,346. It is a railroad town and was once a stopover for passenger trains. The Humboldt River has its source in springs and a swampy area just north of town called Humboldt Wells, and this is probably the origin of the city's name.
Geography
Wells is located at 41°6'34" North, 114°58'8" West (41.109551, -114.968856)Template:GR, at an elevation of 5,630 feet.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.8 km² (6.9 mi²). 17.8 km² (6.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

There are 525 households out of which 35.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.6% are married couples living together, 9.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.8% are non-families. 28.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.14.
In the city the population is spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 10.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 107.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 106.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $35,870, and the median income for a family is $41,827. Males have a median income of $31,250 versus $20,852 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,835. 11.9% of the population and 8.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 18.9% of those under the age of 18 and 2.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
