Weedle (Beedle (ビードル Bīdoru) in the original Japanese) is a basic bug-type Pokémon that evolves into Kakuna at level 7 and Beedrill at level 10. Weedle is most commonly found in forests and hiding in grass and bushes, eating leaves; when attacked, it will defend itself with the help of a two inch poison stinger on the top of its head.

Name origin

Weedle's name is probably a combination of "Worm" and "Needle.", or of "Weevil" and "needle", or possibly of "Weed" and "Needle." Its Japanese name, Beedle, is a combination of "Bee" and "Needle".

Availability

In Pokémon Red/Blue, Weedle can be found in the Viridian Forest. In Pokémon Yellow, Weedle must be obtained by trading from another cartridge. In Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal, Weedle can be found in the National Forest and - in Silver/Crystal - in Ilex Forest. In Pokémon Sapphire/Ruby, Weedle can only be obtained by trading from Leaf Green or Fire Red.

Weedle is vulnerable to Fire, Flying, Psychic, Rock and - in Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow - Bug, and strong against Grass, Fighting and - in Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal - Poison and Bug.

Anime Appearances

Weedle first appeared in the Pokémon Anime when Ash was going through Viridian Forest. It then appeared again in the Johto National Park during the Bug-catching contest in which Ash participated.
