Vrilissia (Greek: Βριλήσσια) is a northern suburb of Athens, Greece. There is a forestes area covered with piney trees which has been battling against a power station and the mayor was attended in 2003.
Vrilissia has schools, lyceums, gymnasia, banks, post offices and squares (plateies).
Reputation
Vrilissia is also known for its "hood" status and is referred to as the Greek Compton or the Greek Bronx. It is notorious for its 4th highest municipality crime rate in Attica and the neighberhood in which of many influential Greek gangsters and pimps grew up in. In 2003 the entourage of Glyfada attempted an attack on Vrilissia boss leaders Christos Stassis and Lukas Canadi. This unsuccesfull attack, led to the gruesome slaughter of 32 gang members of Glyfada. Christos Stassis and Lukas Canadi are currently serving a 6 year sentence in Korydallo Jail. There release is awaited in 2009.
