Valerie Singleton

Valerie Singleton (born 9 April 1937) is a British television and radio presenter, best known for her many years as the female presenter of the popular children's series, Blue Peter.
Having trained at RADA and begun her career as an actress, she joined Blue Peter in 1962 and was with the show for nearly eleven years. She continues to be closely associated with Blue Peter, more so than any other former presenter. During her time with the programme, she pulled off the coup of jointly presenting a wildlife safari special in the company of Princess Anne. She was awarded the OBE for her services to children's television. During her time as a presenter, she had a well-publicised relationship with Radio 1 DJ, Pete Murray.
After leaving Blue Peter in 1973 (though she continued to make occasional special appearances), Valerie Singleton presented other programmes, notably Radio 4's PM programme and The Money Programme on BBC2.
