The Volkswagen Gol is a compact automobile produced by Volkswagen in Brazil, and is a design unique to Latin America. It is produced as a hatchback, but there is also a station wagon version, known as the Parati in Brazil and the Gol Country in Argentina. The Gol, which takes its name from the Portuguese word for 'goal', is not to be confused with the VW Golf.
The Gol is also sold in Mexico as the Volkswagen Pointer, a name previously used in Brazil and Argentina for a model based on the Ford Escort.
The sedan and wagon versions were sold in the US and Canada as the Volkswagen Fox in the mid-1980s.
