Hello Viajero, welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. You can learn more on the how to edit page. The naming conventions and manual of style pages are also useful. Feel free to experiment at the Wikipedia:Sandbox. If you have any questions about the project then check out Wikipedia:Help or add a question to the Village pump. Angela

Lir/Vera Cruz/Susan Mason/Dietary Fiber/Susan Mason/Adam? 172

you think so? Nice work on ENO, anyway. :-) -- Tarquin 20:30 23 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Hi, perhaps you understood what the above comment from 172 meant... I didn't... In any case, thanks for your kind words. -- Viajero 10:31 24 Jul 2003 (UTC)
I don't think is you. Lir, etc. is a banned but persistent user. Those names are the ones that he/she has used. Not sure why 172 thought it was you, your style seems different in the places I've seen it. Welcome! --AN 04:25, 2 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Dear Viajero: Hola1 Thank you for your nice words! Just out of curiosity, are you male or female? and how old?

Well, I will try to keep up with the new writing tricks and developments. Sometimes, to tell you the truth, I feel like a musician when writing articles here. I just write and technics pass me by. Musicians just play their instruments while technology passes them by..LOL

Well, I dont know, that might be my opinion about musicians. After all, to me a guitar is just a guitar..lol

So, since you are a viajero, where in the world are you now?

Ok, well thanks for your comment, and God bless you!! Hope to hear from you again soon!

Sincerely yours, Antonio The Horse Martin

Callao

The only other "Callao" is a town in Missouri (pop.: 291). In cases where one city is much older and much larger than others by that name, our policy is not to list the country (see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (city names)).

Narcissism entry

What a wondeful piece of editing and added content in the Narcissism article! My hat off.

samvak 11:56, 13 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Responded

Viajero, responded to your question. Also added Narcissism entry to the Open Directory (I am editor of Mental Health Disorders there). It should go public when the new database is uploaded. Talk to you soon. samvak 11:56, 13 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Were Book + Letter received?

Dear Viajero,

Earlier today sent you two messages: One lengthy letter (my apologies)+ E-book as attachment.

Were both (or either) received?

Please respond to mailto:palma@unet.com.mk, if you can.

Take care.

I unprotected Fujimori for you. Just tell me whenever the vandal's back and I protect the page for you.

Thanks!

BTW, do you want Toledo unprotected now as well? 172 16:57, 15 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Yes, please. -- Viajero 17:21, 15 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Toledo is now unprotected. I'll protect both pages, however, from the "partisan" whenever you want. 172 17:35, 15 Aug 2003 (UTC)
I'm hoping that won't be necessary; there must be better ways of attending to these situations, but how I don't yet exactly know. -- Viajero 18:28, 15 Aug 2003 (UTC)
That's fine. I'll do anything to help. It's great that someone is finally paying serious attention to Latin America around here. I did a series on the History of Brazil, but I've been guilty of ignoring Latin America, by and large. Maybe I should take a look at the Peru-related articles some day. 172 19:24, 15 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Looks like you've had your hands full with New Imperialism lately. Nice work BTW! -- Viajero 20:17, 15 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Did you mean to move your user page into the main namepace? I have moved it to User:Viajero/Asuntos for now. Angela

Oops, thanks. Careless of me. Yes, that was my intention. Perhaps you could delete Asuntos from the main namespace. Thanks. -- Viajero 17:10, 20 Aug 2003 (UTC)
No problem, have done. Angela

I'll help you next time the Fujimori partisan returns, hopefully. I haven't been online for about a week, so I'll hopefully be able to help you with that article now that I'm back. 172 18:50, 24 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Hi again Abe, I saw your revert to the his latest. Good, except I don't think that threatening to protect the page will help. If he does it again, I think it would be better just to revert and refer him to the Talk page for discussion. -- Viajero 20:04, 24 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Hi Viajero, thanks for replying. Sorry about being so suspicious. There are lots of suspicious people in Wikipedia (not necessarily of you - just in general) and it must have rubbed off on me. In case you didn't see the message I left for you on my user talk page, good luck with adminship. Angela

Thought I might mention, yes there were eight defendants in the Chicago trials, but that's not what they're popularly known by; the article, when written, will almost certainly be at Chicago Seven per the Wikipedia naming conventions. - Hephaestos 18:28, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Sigh, ok, whatever. I found references to both the Seven and the Eight within Wiki (and also outside of it), so I tried to harmonize references. There aren't that many so it will be easy enough to correct it. -- Viajero 18:40, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)
PS, 1968 Democratic National Convention now listed on the main page refers to Eight. We'd better sort this out once and for all... Viajero 18:43, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)
I don't know whether it's that huge a deal, actually, whatever the name turns out to be the other will undoubtedly be a redirect to the same article. I just noticed 4800 Googles for 7 as opposed to I think 1800 for 8 (most of which also mention 7). - Hephaestos 18:50, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)
I tried to explain the issue on the Kunstler talk page: http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:William_Moses_Kunstler --Jose Ramos 18:54, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Poof! You've got sysop rights. Use them well. As your first act, let me suggest that you update Wikipedia:Administrators to reflect your new status. --Uncle Ed 19:23, 2 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Congratulations! 172 03:08, 3 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Fuentes photo, public domain?

I noticed you posted a picture of Carlos Fuentes but you did not state the source of the image on the image description page. Is this a public domain photo? Did you take it? Who is the copyright owner? We probably do not need Mr. Fuentes' permission as he is a well known public figure, but without the photographer's permission this photo may not be distributable under the GFDL even if you might claim fair use under the Wikipedia:Image use policy (which you should do in the context of the article on Carlos Fuentes); otherwise it may soon be listed on VfD as a copyright violation. Alex756 00:20, 23 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I will inquire at the site where I found it. -- Viajero 01:37, Sep 25, 2003 (UTC)
Thanks. Alex756 06:52, 26 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Hey Viajero, I loved your article about Ruben Blades! Very well written and accurate.

I put it on the home page. If its not there when you get in, dont feel bad a lot of times I put articles there and they take them off.

Thanks and God bless! Oh, and go to my page and check the scandal I got with Wik....support me..LOL! jk

Sincerely yours, Antonio el loquito Martin

Hi, thanks for reverting some of my changes at Rubén Blades. I must have been half asleep at the time. Some of them don't look like corrections at all! Sorry about that. Good work on it by the way. Angela 01:14, Sep 28, 2003 (UTC)

Está bien. Thanks for your kind words. -- Viajero 07:14, 28 Sep 2003 (UTC)

No - that makes you extra special. Way beyond being a simple vandal. You can go straight to the top of Wikipedia:Wikipedians by social status. And causing someone to delete their user page from the stress of it all gets you bonus points. Lol. :) --Angela 07:16, 28 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Do you really think our readers don't know what a writer and a painter are? Why not say he was the son of a writer and a painter? Adam 23:49, 30 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Hi Adam, I guess you must be referring to Karl-Maria_Kertbeny. If you look carefully at the history, you will see that it was user Frecklefoot who wikified those terms, not me (see http://en2.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Karl-Maria_Kertbeny&diff=1506776&oldid=1506726 ). I simply changed some of your HTML codes, ie <i>, to the Wiki equivalents (also in Karl Heinrich Ulrichs). Moments thereafter the above-mentioned user went through the text and wikified many dates and terms. I undid a number of them, including books (!) (see http://en2.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Karl-Maria_Kertbeny&diff=1506783&oldid=1506776 ), but not all. Please repost this message to user_talk:Frecklefoot and by all means undo the links if they bother you.
FWIW, I am entirely on your side in this issue. I am a minimalist where links are concerned, and I feel they are frequently overused; overlinking clutters up articles and represents poor editorial judgement. Unfortunately, there are a number of other users who literally believe in wikifying everything, including plain English words like sand, beach, road etc, and I have had conflicts about this a number of times. Alas, the documentation partly supports them (see Wikipedia:Make only links relevant to the context), except in the matter of dates, which is why I undo them. If you are interested in debating this issue with others, you could post a comment to Wikipedia_talk:Make only links relevant to the context; I would certainly participate in such a discussion. Excellent articles, BTW. -- Viajero 08:45, 1 Oct 2003 (UTC)
Vaijero thanks for that, and my deepest apologies for directing my bile at you instead of the actual culprit. I will redirect it :) Adam 23:53, 1 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Well done, I definitely think it's worth adding to the main page so I have done. I don't think there's anything wrong with you adding it yourself. As long as you're not only listing your own articles to the detriment of other authors then I doubt anyone would object. They can always revert if they do! I moved it to the full name of James William Fulbright. By the way, the photo shows up fine on www. server. Angela 20:39, Oct 3, 2003 (UTC)

If you think retribution edits on other articles I write are going to bother me then you don't know me very well. As long as they are NPOV and good stuff have fun with them.Ark30inf 20:15, 4 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Actually, I took a look at that page because it was linked from the Main page, not because you had written it. It is a fine article; I just tweaked the formatting and the intro a bit. -- Viajero 20:25, 4 Oct 2003 (UTC)

I would like to work this one out. The intro to the first quote (the 911 one) is something I can accept from your last version. If we can generalize the other one so that it could cover Grenada, Kosovo, Iraq, or cruise missile attacks into Sudan without having to actually list them then I would be satisfied with its neutrality.Ark30inf 21:37, 4 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Ok, discussion continued on Talk:J. William Fulbright. -- Viajero 22:15, 4 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Hey, Viajero....take a look at the American Exceptionalism article. Do you think we could reach a compromise by saying "dangers of American Exceptionalism and then you adding the Iraq/Afghanistan stuff to that article in some form?Ark30inf 05:15, 5 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Hi. I think the ERM can probably safely reside at Exchange Rate Mechanism without any ambiguity. Mintguy 10:53, 6 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Just so you know where I'm coming from, I'm a conservative Republican interested in Arkansas history, politics, and politicians. 90% of what I deal with is Democratic party politicians. So I have to be VERY careful about NPOV when writing about what I am interested in. When I wrote about Mike Huckabee I had to write for the enemy, when I wrote about James Lee Witt I had to keep any hint of my views out of it. Its difficult. So anything I perceive as POV getting into Arkansas politicians sort of gets my attention. Nothing personal.Ark30inf 18:17, 6 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Thanks! I was just about to thank *you* por el pagina Bolivian Gas war -- when I checked my talk page, to find something from you already. What a coincidence! I wont be around for a few days, but I look forward to talking with you more. 戴&#30505sv

800x600

Hey, I just saw your comment on Talk:Main Page about not being able to tell what is 800x600. I also have a 1024x768 screen, but I just right click on my desktop and select "display modes" to change to 800x600. I'm using Windows XP. I hope this helps. --Jiang 04:45, 11 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Ironically, it was the utter gall of taking David Crosby off the list that got me started on that. Trace the location of the IP for a chuckle. - Hephaestos 07:45, 13 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for the invitation to intervene in the Ebadi article. I wrote a fairly lengthy case for the need to present the qualified interpretation in question (i.e. that the prize may have given credence to Ebadi's peaceful reformism, while critiquing the Bush administration flamboyant "Axis of Evil" rhetoric) in any neutral and suggestive article. Hopefully, this will help get the ill-informed and/or bemused criticism off the talk page. 172 01:00, 18 Oct 2003 (UTC)

A great help. You've also given me impetus not to be hestitant about tackling difficult current affairs issues in articles (I regularly get heat for this). Viajero 09:43, 18 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Margaux Hemingway

I'd already protected it before I saw your message not to. It may as well stay that way for 24 hours to dissuade Nydigovoth. By the way, Alexandros (formerly Aplank) is in IRC and claiming not to be Nydigovoth. Angela 23:13, Oct 25, 2003 (UTC)

Hi, I'd be quite surprised if Alexandros was Nydigovoth, but then you know better than most not to trust my judgement! :) (embarrassed smile)

I don't know about the IRC suspicions. I can't really see why that would be the case. I think Nydigovoth is simply a troll and I'm fairly sure he's not new. He seems to be purposefully trying to stir up trouble. He reminds me a lot of BuddhaInside.

Regarding the removal of text from problem users -I think you were right in restoring it. I don't like anyone who is listed there removing text that concerns the issue.

By the way, is your user page supposed to be protected? I'm not sure if I might have just protected it by accident. Let me know if you need me to take it off. Angela 14:06, Oct 26, 2003 (UTC) <--I just realised this makes no sense. I must have forgot you were a sysop! Sorry. :) Angela 19:41, Oct 27, 2003 (UTC)

Hello. There seems to be some confusion over the Nydigoveth (AKA Nydigovoth) user. Nydigovoth is not me and I would appreciate it if you would refrain from making any further allegations concerning my username without discussing the accusations with me first (User_talk:Alexandros). I am sorry to bother you and I wish you the best. See adding Problem users for more information. Alexandros 14:33, 26 Oct 2003 (UTC)

test 212.238.218.165 21:15, 26 Oct 2003 (UTC)

I don't always watch other people's pages when I leave a message so it's probably best to reply at my page. I can understand your irritation with Nydigovoth. He continued messing around with other articles like David Blaine after you left.

Personally I would not have protected the page if I was you, but others think I interpret that rule too strictly. I prefer to err on the side of caution and refuse to protect any page I have edited at all. Even if I only reverted obvious vandalism. I'd just rather not be accused of abusing my powers! The problem is that any sensible person wouldn't see as an abuse of power, but a troll like that probably would. Up to you really, but there's generally going to be another sysop around that you can to do it for you if you want to be cautious. Angela 22:08, Oct 26, 2003 (UTC)

I've taken the Nydigoveth=Alexandros (formerly Aplank) statement off Wikipedia:Problem users as this seems to be sorted out now. Angela 19:41, Oct 27, 2003 (UTC)

What are your doubts re Lesbian Bed Death? Just curious :) It's a bit of a silly idea, but it seems to have created a lot of discussion out there, though pretty much wholly negative. Dysprosia 09:12, 28 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Seems like a bit of a caricature, a cultural stereotype. I am not a lesbian, hence I don't know for sure. Has there been discussion here or out there in the Big Wide World? -- Viajero 09:20, 28 Oct 2003 (UTC)
I've been looking on Google for some stuff on it, found a lot of criticism. It has been merged to Lesbian which IMO is really POV, so I might give it a retool/onceover so it doesn't sound as so, but I'm not sure what good it'll do. You are right that it is a bit of a stereotype, and I'll try and make that point. Dysprosia 09:23, 28 Oct 2003 (UTC)
That is probably a good a destination for it as any! It seems a lot of newbies create these sub-stubs instead of adding text to existing articles. Have you looked at New pages lately? A constant stream of things 100-500 bytes in size. There must be tens of thousand of them floating around in the bottomless gizzard of Wikipedia! What a thought... -- Viajero 09:46, 28 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Feel free to remove links at music of Cuba -- I may reinstate some, but probably not. I don't think the red links make the article more difficult to read and will, in the future, aid in the linking between articles because whoever writes on a given subject may not go back to add links in other articles. Tuf-Kat 19:16, Oct 28, 2003 (UTC)

Anyway, be bold in updating pages -- especially this one, because I find the history of Cuban music incredibly complicated and difficult to follow. Tuf-Kat 19:53, Oct 28, 2003 (UTC)

No problem, and don't worry about reading the talk on my page. If it was meant to be private, it wouldn't be there! I think you went about the Alun thing in the right way. Sometimes the problem for newbies is that they genuinely don't realise other people are working on an article. I remember when I started, I had no idea whether I was the only person who was ever going to read a page or whether someone was going to revert my changes immediately. I kinda like the extended version of be bold! Perhaps be bold but be prepared to be reverted for it? :) Angela

Book of Armagh

Hi Viajero, I was pleased to see that you put Book of Armagh on the main page. Thanks, it is nice to be noticed. I, however, undid your edit. You can see the talk page of the Book of Armagh for why.David Stapleton 16:19, Oct 30, 2003 (UTC)

Khodorkovsky arrest

I think the arrest of Mikhail Khodorkovsky is one of the biggest stories of the year. It points to the struggle within the Kremlin between the KGB/Military and the business elite. Would love to see him in the News on the front page and would welcome your thoughts and improvements on the article.

Great job on Edo de Waart! I've made a couple of tiny tweaks, but I think I'd need more substantial sources than the ones I have to hand to add anything much. I'll see if I can dig anything up next week, but your article looks pretty comprehensive. Good work. --Camembert

Thanks. I had a Edit Conflict with you just as I was adding a few more bits. Still straightening things out. Thanks for adding date of Bayreuth debut, looked everywhere for it. -- Viajero 14:46, 1 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Hmmm, I don't know who this 'niceguy' is. I assumed at first he was Heine as he moved Heine off the page a while ago, but I doubt that now. I doubt it's a newbie either. Anyway, I wouldn't disagree with moving Nico and szopen off the page, but I think it's better for someone who is known to do it rather than this anonymous 'niceguy'. Perhaps it could be moved to their talk pages. It doesn't seem like anyone else regards either of them as problematic enough to comment on Problem users, so it's best moved to a place they can sort it out amongst themselves. Angela 16:01, Nov 4, 2003 (UTC)

I live in hope that the majority of people actually writing articles won't want them to look like a complete mess and will apply a little common sense to linking. Vamos a ver. Bmills 14:44, 5 Nov 2003 (UTC)
