Hi, thanks for the heads up about the requested references. I posted [1] (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/031216/242/eh6hn.html) on the talk page, and the rest are all over the internet. More than that I don't have.

Help Required

Hi,

First of all I appreciate your patience for taking the time to read this.

I am Amruta. I am a first year masters student, studying Human Computer Interaction at Georgia Tech. Currently i am enrolled in a course on online communities. As part of the course we are supposed to study an online community of our interest.

I went through wikipedia and was really amazed to find that they also had a site in Hindi. I found this really interesting and so thought about exploring how the content differs when the language changes, how people access wikipedia when it is in a different langugae or specifically when it is their mother tongue.

And so the theme for my project is

Wikipedia is available in many different languages. While the interface and concept stay the same, the content and the way people utilize it seem to be significantly different from one language to another. I can see this clearly when I compare the Hindi and English versions. How does culture effect the content and the way people participate in creating it? Which features stay the same? Which features are more exploited in different languages/cultures? If there are similar sites to Wikipedia in their original language, why do those subjects prefer (or do they) to participate in Wikipedia rather than the other alternative?

As part of this project we are supposed to interview 3 people from the community we are studying. The final result of this paper will be to write a paper based on our findings. I have a project group of 3 people all of different nationalities, one Turkish and another Spanish. I was trying to find indian and hindi speaking users for this and came across your name on wikipedia and so i thought you might be able to give me some insight on this.

The main reason to write to you is, i would really appreciate it if you could be one of my subjects for conducting an interview as you might be able to give me some insight into this issue. Participation in my study is completely voluntary. Your name or personal details will never be revealed to anyone during this course.

In case you have any doubts you can go through this page http://www.cc.gatech.edu/classes/AY2005/cs6470_spring/researchstudy/

Waiting to hear from you.

Thanks a lot for your time again, Amrutasl 23:16, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Shahsagar's images

Greetings. Those images were taken by Shahsagar, and uploaded to Wikipedia in late 2004. The uploading page specifically says that you upload an image that you own the copyright for, you agree to license it under the GFDL. Shahsagar checked the box (or he couldn't have uploaded it; therefore he released them under the GFDL. – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 20:40, May 23, 2005 (UTC)

I do usually sign my posts. I missed the one on User talk:Bhavin23.. thanks --Spundun 02:46, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

About Image:Maha shoretemple.jpg

Hello Spundun, thanks for bringing the copyright issue to my notice. I talked to the copyright owner and he is more than willing to release the image under GFDL. Pls let me know the procedure to follow. Jay 10:30, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

Hey thanks for the reminder. I went to the Wikipedia:Template_messages/Image_namespace page but not sure which tag to give, there are many tags under the GNU section itself. Can you suggest a tag, since you have been following the image tagging process. Jay 07:27, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Hey I've tagged it as suggested. I don't think the owner has a hi-res pic. Jay 15:11, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

English in Devanagari script

Hi Spundun, my question is, how to write english vowels in devanagari. Indian Airlines is written as "इंडियन एयरलाइन्स", how do you use the ऍ, ऎ, ए, ऐ, ऑ, ऒ und ओ? How to write get, gat, gate and bot, boat, bought? And "there are snakes in the hole" and "there are snacks in the hall"? — Murtasa 15:47, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Early Morning on the Ganges

Hi Spundun:

Thanks for uploading the photo to the Commons. I am glad you liked the photo. It does make me feel homesick every time I look at it for, although I have only lived in India for three years (plus several shorter trips), I grew up in Trinidad in the West Indies with both Hindus and Muslims as next door neighbours and close childhood friends. In fact, I have always felt more at home in India than I did in my homeland, Canada, or in Australia (where I know live).

Do you think I should be uploading all of my photos that I have put into the Wikipedia into the Commons? Is this easy to do? I am still a bit of a novice and have little time for exploring all the possibilities as I am trying to finish editing a book for publication (an annotated translation of a 2nd century Chinese text on the countries to the West of China including India, Parthia and the Roman Empire). This is taking up almost any free time I have.

Cheers, and thanks again,

John Hill

Hello again!

Thanks so much for your clear yet detailed answer to my inquiry. I will give it a go as soon as I can spare some time.

Cheers and best wishes,

John Hill

Substituting image templates

Any particular reason you advocate against substiuting {{idw}} and others, as evidenced by these edits (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3AImage_copyright_tags&diff=14627961&oldid=14620053)? Alphax τεχ 17:52, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Oops, I confused subst: with msg: , have reverted my edits there now. Thanks for the heads up. --Spundun 21:34, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Red link recovery project

Howdy, Topbanana here, back after an extended absence. I've decided to round up a few of my more useful reports into a project with the goal of converting as many "red links" (links to non-existant articles) into "blue links" (links to real articles). As you've been active in fixing similar things in the past, I thought I'd let you know in case you're interested in joining up. If not, I won't be offended - we've all got lots todo here :) - TB 11:39, 2005 Jun 23 (UTC)
