Policy proposal for bots
I noticed that you placed something on the proposals for the Wikipedia for bots. What do you mean by "report in the edit summary the username of the author of the previous edit"? I'm not so clear on your idea, can you explain it to me? -- AllyUnion (talk) 06:33, 27 May 2005 (UTC)
- The problem is that would be extremely hard to do so, furthermore it would tax the Wikipedia even further as bots will be forced to get the history page first then post. -- AllyUnion (talk) 20:46, 27 May 2005 (UTC)
My other only suggestion in mind is a feature request at BugZilla for the MediaWiki software... From a programmer's standpoint, it looks like there isn't an easy way to solve it. Technically, I thought that if you hid users marked as bots, that the last change should appear is a person who isn't a bot. -- AllyUnion (talk) 05:12, 31 May 2005 (UTC)
belorussian SSR
Mikkalai, I think that Jan 1 1919 it was proclaimed LitBiel Lithuanian-Bellorussian SSR. Am I correct? This "state" was later abandoned and afterwards BSSR was found. Eon 05:40, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Domeyko
The category "Belarus born people" is not correct.
He was born in partioned Poland, Lithuania (geographic), in Imperial Russia.--Witkacy 15:19, 31 May 2005 (UTC)
- The category might be sth like Litvin people--Czalex 17:56, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- One must present very serious reasons in the article to put a person in this category, not like you did with Domeyko. It is one thing that a person says "Litwo, ojczyzno moja". It is a totally another someone's deductions. Don't you know that Slavic ethnoses are pretty intermixed, and the matter of nationality is largely self-determination? With Domeyko, you are free to write a section how he is considered in Belarus. This would be a proper way, not to push your opinion down other peoples' throats. mikka (t) 18:16, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
:)--Czalex 17:56, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Niema spokoju... mikka (t) 18:16, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Tego problemu nie ma dla Litwy i Ukrainy, z mojego doswiadczenia (chiba ze kilka ludzi ze sprzecznymi rodowodami: np. Bohdan Chmielnicki, ale to zdarza wzsedzie). OK back to interlingua. The problem of Belarusian ethnos is unique in certain respects and is waiting for an article. Instead of fight for each historical person individually, I am repeatedly urging people to write a good article, "Litvins," with examples, genealogies, etc., which can be a basis in this kind of discussions. mikka (t) 18:16, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

But what has Template:Mmuknr photo got to do with uploading photographs? There is no connection whatsoever.

Thanks for creating a separate superset superset VfD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Log/2005_June_3#A_series_of_articles_on_Imperial_Japan_in_broken_English) for these articles. I would have probably missed them otherwise. Wikibofh 04:00, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Question
Hi there, Mikkalai! I thought that maybe you could answer my question. Is the material in the online Great Soviet Encyclopedia copyrighted? I figure that since it was published in 1973 (am I right?) all the stuff in it is OK to reproduce (like pictures etc.). Do you know anything about it? I tried e-mailing their website admin, but received no reply. If it is copyright-free, maybe we should create a template Template:Great Soviet Encyclopedia or something like that. Thanx! Computer games inspired by Strugatsky's books
Hello! May I ask why the information about "Stalker" and "Hard to be a God" was deleted completely? Even if it were an advertisement (which I sincerely doubt - except for the word "epic" there was nothing "promotional" in it), then why not rewrite it in a more appropriate way and leave it? Why delete the whole thing? I'm really against this kind of attitude towards others' work. --Koveras 11:35, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Talk:Encyclopędia Dramatica
2004-12-29T22:45Z has edited your comment under "VfD history" in Talk:Encyclopędia Dramatica, inserting the word "again". I'm not sure about the speedy deletion comment, so I don't know whether the "again" is appropriate. Regardless of that, I thought you would want to be alerted that your comment has been altered. --Aussieintn 02:40, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Word use question
Mikkalai, why is it that you refuse to use the word bastardization? It would seem that one other character, and now I, have tagged along in support of this (ironically) legitimate word. Every source (electronic, paper, and social) expresses more merit in the word bastardization rather than corruption. I even have the support of my English professor whom also agrees that words are bastardized, not corrupted. Please get back to me on this one, and thanks for the cat.

Drum wrench
Hi there -- Just saw you'd noted on Israeli Terrorism Vfd discussion that the arty's Vfd nomination hadn't made it to the main log. I nominated Drum wrench on the 10th -- eight days back for Vfd, and I'd guess it won a Keep, or so the vote page would indicate when accessed from the article... which I'd visited again during the Man Tool vote. (Whew!) (I hope that's clear — and I'm the one who is browsing Vfd as don't have energy to write tonight. Right???!!!) In any event, during the three step nomination process on what I believe to be the main log, things went a bit screwy. That (wrench) article still has a Vfd Tag (Template) so hasn't been processed, or is being overlooked. Since you know how to check, I thought I'd refer it to you. When things went screwy, I'd ask an Admin — it's on my talk page somewhere on the 11th-13th — to check it out, and he thought things were fine. Since it's still hanging with that tag, someone needs to check it out. The Man Tool is gathering votes towards a merge if the trend continues, but the Drum wrench arty already mentions it... which implies a redirect is the likely outcome. Still need to see if anyone is processing the vote tally, or if was off the main log. Thanks! Frank [[User:Fabartus| User:fabartus || TalktoMe]] 04:26, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

On which grounds the images i have uploaded towikipediaare removed? ~
Mikka...I wasn't saying that what you did was POV, what I said was that your stated fears about what people might think if they clicked on phobia in Afrophobia, etc., made it sound like your rationale for creating Phobia (attitude) was an expression of your POV. I was not saying that you had done so because you're pushing a POV, merely that that your use of that rationale, especially in making the article with that particular name, makes it sound like you are. As I said, if the amount of material at Phobia#Non-clinical uses of the term becomes sufficiently unweildy there to warrant its being moved to an independent article, I would fully support that, although I think Phobia (attitude) would be a singularly bad choice for a name for such an article, especially in light of the fact that non-clinical usage of the term is generally as -phobia and then normally as a (usually very POV) way of delegitimizing a prejudice, perceived or invented. Kol tov. Tomer TALK 00:07, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)
- Mikka...In light of your recent protests against editors who don't share your views, or who don't regard your arguments as particularly convincing, I think you're letting this VfD get to you on a personal level. None of the comments have been directed at or against you. It's unpleasant to have your work questioned, or trashed, but nobody's using this as a forum to judge you. Please don't assume that's what's happening...as I go to add yet another comment... :-p Tomer TALK 09:32, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)
I don't mind the word "attitude", I just don't think it's appropriate in this context. What is described by phobia (attitude) is already covered at prejudice, discrimination, and intolerance. Meanwhile, such "phobias" are covered already in -phobia. That English would reuse a word, however, with completely opposite meanings, is not that shocking. Look up "cleave" sometime. :-) Kol tov. Tomer TALK 15:27, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)
- To tell you the truth, Mikka, I think that all of the articles (Afrophobia, etal.) that you've cited (in Phobia (attitude) and its VfD) should note that they are neologisms. I see that what you have done by creating this article is try to make a link for people so that they understand what "phobia" is meant in all those various articles. Your efforts are admirable and I see that you have only tried to be helpful. However, I think such an article is liable to confuse people and lead them into thinking that defining phobia (even as an attitude) as "prejudice, hatred, discrimination, or hostility" is technically acceptable. Therefore I suggest the following (and I hope we can achieve some consensus on this): The common (but technically flawed) use of the term "phobia" should be placed prominently in the wiki article phobia, and discussed more thoroughly there. The links (Afrophobia, etal.) should also be placed in that section. You have mentioned that this usage of the term is too inconspicuous in the Phobia article, and I hope this suggestion would resolve that. By the way, I don't mean anything personal by my aggressive involvement in this VfD (though I didn't initiate the VfD, and I wasn't going to initiate it without waiting for a response from you on the talk page of Phobia (attitude), but someone beat me to it. I'm sure having an article deleted is no fun). I'm sorry for my aggression, and for stepping a bit outside the boundaries of decorum (you know, the "Sigh..." thing). I must say, you reacted to the VfD quite professionally, and that alone speaks volumes about your responsibility as an editor and your good temperament as a person. I look forward to collaborating with you on Wikipedia, if the occasion arises. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, HKT 06:22, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

image copyright policy
Hi Mikkalai. Thanks for the note on User talk:Gabrichidze. Is there any discussion about the changed image copyright policy? I would like to read more about others peoples opinion about that. Also, not sure if you have read this quote from User_talk:Jimbo_Wales#Non-commercial_only_and_By_Permission_Only_Images_to_be_deleted : There are a great many complexities and borderline cases associated with this. "Fair use" presents a challenging example, and I think that we rely far too heavily on fair use and that virtually all (yes, virtually all!) of the images which are currently tagged as 'fair use' should be deleted. But this is a grey area and so at this time, I only urge people to be cautious about those. Sounds to me like the fair use images should go, and the only reason they stay is that there are so damn many of them, and it would upset a lot of people. Anyway, thans for your work! -- Chris 73 Talk 11:08, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)
