User:Brassratgirl

Hi, I'm a new user as of August 2003; interested in English literature, history, jewelry, science, (particularly oceanography, ecology, and biology) and library science. However, I also have interests in a great many other areas and I like to research things. As of September 2003, I am a library science student at the University of Washington, where I've been plugging the Wikipedia to anyone who will listen.

I tend to use the minor changes button often, probably too often for my own good. Bear this in mind if you look at my contributions. I do try and add comments to everything I do, however.

My username has nothing to do with MIT.

strange fish
"a Verye Strange Fishe indeede"

Pages I've started:

earring -- needs pictures and detailed information
fishery -- rather proud of this one. Well researched with pics.
marine sunfish -- aka mola mola

Scott O'Dell -- the great children's author

Major pages I have worked on:

jewellery -- edited to add some more barebones paragraphs; I would like to keep working on this one to make it into a full page.
Annie Dillard -- updated bibliography, added short description, still needs work
Margaret Atwood -- updated & corrected bibliography and biography. Bib. was a mess -- poetry listed as novels, etc. Added links.
Graeme Gibson -- updated biography
marine biology -- rather a mess, the grammer bad
Patrick Wilson -- added Patrick Wilson, the noted information scientist
University of Arkansas -- added a bunch of stuff
Tontitown, Arkansas -- added information about a local festival

list of English novelists and list of American novelists -- added various people
Lots of fish pages -- I've been uploading non-copyvio pictures from here: http://www.nefsc.noaa.gov/history/photos.html for use on marine/fishery/fish pages. Excellent line art drawings. done so far: sturgeon, flounder, mola mola..

Minor changes and copyediting done on many other pages

Pages I'd like to work on/create:

Marge Piercy
estuary (and related pages)
oceanography
and marine conservation
hacker culture<-- what I wrote my senior thesis on
George Eliot (currently a short entry on a great woman)
jewelry ring
pages relating to fisheries
common guillemot and other birds in the family Alcae (current bird pages are quite good, just incomplete)
a few things about places in Arkansas
Suzzallo_Library (and other things that turn up from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Seattle)
the sargasso sea (and the list of oceans)
and approx. 101 literary things. Onward!

Long-term research projects, i.e. it's disgraceful there's not more in these articles:

As a library science student, I am also very interested in the workings of the Wikipedia Reference Desk, and have created a short survey for participants on the desk. If you have asked or answered questions there, please fill out a survey: https://catalyst.washington.edu/webtools/webq/survey.cgi?owner=psa4&id=3 It is completely confidential and will only be used for my own research into online and community reference services.

Things I like doing on the Wikipedia: browsing, wikifying, connecting articles, verifying things like bibliographies and expanding articles about common yet complicated things, and having the sense of working on an encyclopedia in the grand tradition of same, albeit in a completely new fashion. I also like reading articles. Things I don't like at all: debates about controversial subjects, flame or edit wars and general online community bs. Thus, as I become a part of this project I am going to try to revel in the former and avoid the latter.

Other pet peeve: cite your sources, people!
