Uppvidinge is a municipality in Kronoberg County, in southern Sweden with its seat in the town of Åseda. It has a rather small population but states "A small municipality embiggens the man". The largest urban area, is Åseda with 2,500 inhabitants.
More than 80% of the area is covered with forests, making it live up to the general public's impression of the "dark" province of Smalandia. The name uppvidinge itself means something like forest on a hill. There has never really been any city in the municipality, so with the Swedish municipal reform in 1971-74, when Uppvidinge became a municipality, they resorted to a name from a document from 1568, referring to a nearby jurisdiction. The insignia used by those people became the city arms, depicting a herb of some kind in a red color.
