United States Highway 131 is a north-south United States highway. All but one mile (1.6 km) of its length is within Michigan.

Termini
As of 2004, the highway's northern terminus is in Petoskey, Michigan, at an intersection with U.S. Highway 31. Its southern terminus is about five miles (8 km) north of Middlebury, Indiana at an intersection with the Indiana Toll Road, just south of the Michigan-Indiana border, where it continues as Indiana State Highway 13.
Until the mid-1960s it extended south to Middlebury and was co-signed with U.S. Highway 20 to complete a loop to U.S. Highway 31 in South Bend, Indiana.

Michigan
US 131 runs for a distance of approximately 275 miles (443 km) in Michigan, beginning at the junction with the Indiana Toll Road near the Michigan-Indiana state border and running north to Petoskey. It is an important highway in Western Michigan, serving the cities of Three Rivers, Portage, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Big Rapids, Cadillac, Kalkaska, and Petoskey. The highway is an important link between Grand Rapids and the tourist areas of northwest Michigan.
US 131 is a freeway from Portage to Manton, Michigan; it is a four-lane highway, though not limited-access, from just south of Portage to Three Rivers. As of 2003, an extension of the freeway north to Kalkaska and a possible link to Interstate 75 as well as a southward extension of the freeway to the Indiana state line are in the planning stages.
Indiana
US 131 extends less than a mile (1.6 km) into Indiana before becoming Indiana State Highway 13 at the Indiana Toll Road.
