Trout Mask Replica
|
Template:Album infobox Trout Mask Replica is a 1969 album by Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band. Combining elements of blues, free jazz, and other apparently disparate bits of American music, it is widely regarded as one of the most important works in experimental music.
Regarding it, BBC DJ John Peel has said "If there has been anything in the history of popular music which could be described as a work of art in a way that people who are involved in other areas of art would understand, then Trout Mask Replica is probably that work." Peel's airplay of the record on late-night radio in Britain was sufficient to cause the album, for all its inaccessibility and cacophony, to spend a week at number 21 on the UK charts.
It is number 58 on the List of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and number 45 on Joe S. Harrington's Top 100 Albums (http://www.blastitude.com/14/pg4.htm).
