Thursday is a emo/hardcore from New Brunswick, New Jersey, formed in 1997.
Thursday has become one of the most sucessful bands in the underground scene. They have defined a new sound and pushed the edge of "rock" into new areas, all while gaining a huge fanbase. A very notable achievement of Thursday has been the advancement of an artistic culture. Many of their songs are affected by books, art, and world events.
They have had the opportunity to play with such bands as At the Drive-In, Boy Sets Fire, Hot Water Music, Sparta, and AFI. By 2000, they were also on the Vans Warped Tour. They have also even had the opportunity to perform with Goth Rock/New Wave legends, The Cure, whom they are often compared to.

Music
Their sound is based upon post-punk atmospherics and hardcore's visceral nature. Odd time signatures, tempo and key changes, and multi-sectional song structures also play a prominent role, making them somewhat similar to progressive rock bands such as Yes and Rush, although it is doubtful that these bands had a direct effect on Thursday.
There are two key elements to Thursday's music that sets them apart from peers within their genre. The first is that Thursday are heavily influenced by 80's post-punk and goth rock bands such as The Cure, The Smiths, and Joy Division. This shows in the band's music sonically, as their revolves around heavy bass lines, with repeating high-pitched guitar riffs layered on top.
