The Cure Chronology | ||
Three Imaginary Boys (1979) | Boys Don't Cry (1980) |
Three Imaginary Boys is English rock band The Cure's debut album. It was later re-released in the USA with a slightly different song lineup as Boys Don't Cry.
The Cure were a trio when Three Imaginary Boys was released, and the album is sparse and stripped down, with echoes of a punk edge, yet fresh enough to cause comment, tuneful, mournful and suggestive of what was to come. An interesting fact about this album is that it contains the only Cure song that is not sung by Smith. The Jimi Hendrix song, "Foxy Lady" which is covered on this album, is actually sung by Michael Dempsey, the bass player at the time. The track was not supposed to be on the album and was only a soundcheck and was removed for the American release.
