The Eagles of Death Metal
|
The Eagles of Death Metal is a garage rock band consisting of Jesse "The Devil" Hughes the songwriter, guitar, vocals, Timmy Van Hamel guitar as well Josh Homme on drums. While Hughes is the leader of the band, Homme is its best known member due to his history as leader of Queens of the Stone Age and Kyuss. Van Hamel has been a member of Deus, Millionaire and Evil Superstar.
Despite the name, the Eagles of Death Metal are not a death metal band. J.Everett Hughes says the name came for a response to a drunken man who argued Poison were death metal. He said that Poison were the Eagles of death metal. Later, Josh Homme inspired him to write music that he thought would be the Eagles crossed with death metal, and their debut album was the result.
The Eagles of Death Metal formed in Palm desert, California in 1998 first appeared on Josh Homme's album The Desert Sessions III/IV which was released in that year. The band's first album, Peace, Love, Death Metal was released on March 23, 2004. In a 2003 interview with MTV News, Josh Homme described the sound of the band as a combination of: "bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals."
Gran Turismo 4 contains "I only want you" by The Eagles of Death Metal on the soundtrack.
