Talladega County is a county of the State of Alabama. Its name comes from a Creek Indian town name. As of 2000 the population is 80,321. Its county seat is Talladega.

History
Talladega County was established on December 18, 1832.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,969 km² (760 mi²). 1,915 km² (740 mi²) of it is land and 54 km² (21 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.73% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 80,321 people, 30,674 households, and 21,901 families residing in the county. The population density is 42/km² (109/mi²). There are 34,469 housing units at an average density of 18/km² (47/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 67.02% White, 31.55% Black or African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.27% from other races, and 0.71% from two or more races. 1.01% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 30,674 households out of which 32.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.40% are married couples living together, 15.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.60% are non-families. 25.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 3.00.
In the county the population is spread out with 25.00% under the age of 18, 9.00% from 18 to 24, 28.80% from 25 to 44, 23.90% from 45 to 64, and 13.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 95.70 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.50 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $31,628, and the median income for a family is $38,004. Males have a median income of $30,526 versus $21,040 for females. The per capita income for the county is $15,704. 17.60% of the population and 13.90% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 24.70% of those under the age of 18 and 18.20% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
