Swinburne University of Technology is a small university based over a number of campuses in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia.
As well as degree programs at bachelor, masters and doctoral levels, the university also operates as a technical college (through its TAFE Division), offering shorter certificate and diploma programs.
It operates research programs in several areas. Whilst lacking the broad coverage of the larger Melbourne universities, it is quite strong in specialised areas such as radio astronomy, software engineering, photonics & optics, social research and "molecular simulation", an area of materials science.
The University hosts the National School of Design and the National Institute of Circus Arts.
The University has campuses in numerous parts of Melbourne including Croydon, Hawthorn, Prahran, Lilydale, Wantirna, and Healesville. There is also an international campus in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.
