Story of the Year is an alternative and punk pop band originally formed in St. Louis in 1996. Initially named Big Blue Monkey, in 2002 they changed their name to Story of the Year because a blues group had already taken the name Big Blue Monkey. but mostly because they were no longer big blue monkey with different band members(phil), they hated the name, and they were writing better music.
After the band was formed, recorded a few demos and might have recorded some EPs. Although, they didn't release their first album Page Avenue until September of 2003. Their first single from that album was "Until The Day I Die" written by singer Dan Marsala. It first received radio airplay around July/August 2003 on stations like KROQ and sold hundreds of copies worldwide.
They toured with Linkin Park on the Meteora World Tour in 2004 along with bands P.O.D. and Hoobastank. They were also on the Van's Warped Tour and at KROQ's Weenie Roast on June 12 on that same year.
In May 2004, Story Of The Year were playing at a Radio Festival and after the show was done, the roadcrew of Godsmack attacked them and beat them up. The full story can be read here.
