St. John's East is the name of a Canadian federal electoral district that covers a part of St. John's, Newfoundland. Since 1997, it has been represented by Norman Doyle. Its population is 81,007. Geography
The district includes the extreme northeastern part of the Avalon Peninsula including the northern half of the City of St. John's, and the eastern half of the Town of Conception Bay South. Communities include St. John's (part), Conception Bay South (part), Torbay, Paradise, Wabana, and Portugal Cove-St. Philip's. The area is 400 sq. km.
History
The riding was created when Newfoundland joined Confederation in 1949. St. John's East was won by Liberal Bonnie Hickey in 1993, but was captured by Tory Norman Doyle. The Conservative Party of Canada MP remains the incumbent.
