Sherman is a village located in Chautauqua County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 714.
The Village of Sherman was incorporated in 1890 and lies in the northern part of the Town of Sherman.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.
The village is located at intersections of Routes 15, 18 76 and 430.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 714 people, 287 households, and 198 families residing in the village. The population density is 332.1/km² (860.4/mi²). There are 316 housing units at an average density of 147.0/km² (380.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.90% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.40% from two or more races. 0.42% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 287 households out of which 34.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.0% are married couples living together, 12.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% are non-families. 27.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.99.
