Shalim Ortiz

Shalim Gerardo Ortiz Goyco (born February 6, 1979), is an international singing star from Puerto Rico. The son of famous Puerto Rican entertainer Elin Ortiz and his wife, Charytin Goyco, who is a legendary singer across Latin America, Shalim, as he is better known, is half Dominican, but he considers himself one hundred percent Puerto Rican.
Shalim starred in WAPA-TV's television show Los Angelitos at the age of seven. Los Angelitos, a children's comedy about a group of children in a school, became a major hit in Latin America.
Shalim moved to Miami, Florida with his family, which also include a brother and sister who are twins. There, he tried a career as a model. Later on, he would be signed by Emilio Estefan, husband of Gloria Estefan and one of the most renowned Hispanic producers. With Estefan, Shalim was able to contact the William Morris Agency and Sony records.
Shalim in 2002 starred in one episode of The Lizzie McGuire Show, alongside Hilary Duff and Lalaine Vergara.
In 2003 and 2004, Shalim completed a world tour that included stops in Europe and in South America. Shalim is also an advocate of the American Diabetes Association; his father Elin has diabetes, and Shalim has become a spokesman of the ADA for the Hispanic population of the United States.
On July 24 of 2004, he and Amelia Vega formally announced that they are dating.
