Shady Grove serves the residential areas of Rockville and Gaithersburg, Maryland, as well as northwest Montgomery County, Frederick County and points north. It is located at Redland Road near Frederick Road, at the end of Interstate 370. Service began on July 25, 1984.
This station is home to the Washington Metro's second fatal accident, which occurred in 1996. One person was killed. For more information on the 1996 metro accident, click on the link.
