According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 9.7 km² (3.7 mi²). 9.4 km² (3.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.95% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 5,467 people, 2,075 households, and 1,520 families residing in the community. The population density is 583.1/km² (1,512.2/mi²). There are 2,168 housing units at an average density of 231.2/km² (599.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 91.35% White, 3.26% African American, 0.29% Native American, 1.02% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.71% from other races, and 1.37% from two or more races. 8.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,075 households out of which 34.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.1% are married couples living together, 11.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.7% are non-families. 21.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 and the average family size is 3.04.
In the community the population is spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who are 65 years of age or older.
