The Seeker of Truth is a position within Terry Goodkind's series of fantasy novels The Sword of Truth:
- The Seeker of Truth is a position that is above any king or any other person of any station. He (or she) is sovereign unto himself and no other. They bow before no human. The Seeker of Truth bears the Sword of Truth. This is a magical weapon. Because of the balance of duality the sword bears two powers, that of anger and that of love. Only a true weilder of the blade can use love and turn the blade white. The Seeker of Truth does exactly as the title implies. He (or she) seeks the truth. At one time the Council of the Midlands believed that it was merely a petty post to be doled out to some deserving underling. Nothing is ever that simple. Only the head wizard can name the Seeker and, in fact, a true Seeker names himself and the wizard only makes it official. One who not a true Seeker will be corrupted by the blade and be turned into something less then human. This happened to Samuel the witchwoman's servant who constantly lusts after the blade.
