Scriba, New York

Scriba is a town located in Oswego County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 7,331. The town is named after landowner George Scriba.
The Town of Scriba is east of the City of Oswego. The town was created in 1811 from the Town of Volney, then known as the Town of Fredericksburg.

Geography
The town borders Lake Ontario, the City of Oswego, and the Oswego River.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 113.6 km² (43.9 mi²). 105.1 km² (40.6 mi²) of it is land and 8.5 km² (3.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 7.50% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 7,331 people, 2,721 households, and 1,937 families residing in the town. The population density is 69.8/km² (180.7/mi²). There are 3,053 housing units at an average density of 29.1/km² (75.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.19% White, 0.38% African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.64% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 1.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,721 households out of which 38.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.9% are married couples living together, 10.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.8% are non-families. 20.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.64 and the average family size is 3.07.
In the town the population is spread out with 28.4% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 32.5% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 8.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 105.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 104.7 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $39,550, and the median income for a family is $44,304. Males have a median income of $35,974 versus $25,329 for females. The per capita income for the town is $17,939. 14.8% of the population and 10.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 21.1% of those under the age of 18 and 2.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
