St. Johns is a city located in Clinton County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 7,485. It is the county seat of Clinton County6.
St. Johns is near the junction of north-south U.S. Highway 127 and east-west Michigan State Highway 21. US 127 actually bypasses the city on the east, but a business route connects the downtown area. Lansing is about 20 miles to the south. Flint is about 44 miles to the east, and Grand Rapids is about 60 miles to the west.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.2 km² (3.9 mi²). 10.2 km² (3.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 7,485 people, 2,994 households, and 1,999 families residing in the city. The population density is 737.2/km² (1,909.1/mi²). There are 3,148 housing units at an average density of 310.1/km² (802.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.64% White, 0.75% African American, 0.56% Native American, 0.61% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.11% from other races, and 1.27% from two or more races. 3.39% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,994 households out of which 34.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.0% are married couples living together, 11.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% are non-families. 28.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 3.01.
In the city the population is spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.1 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $41,713, and the median income for a family is $52,391. Males have a median income of $39,289 versus $27,940 for females. The per capita income for the city is $21,611. 6.5% of the population and 4.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.6% of those under the age of 18 and 5.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
